Caritas Nigeria was established in September 2010 by the Catholic Bishops Conference of Nigeria (CBCN), as a specialized national development agency with a mandate for overall coordination of development programs for the Catholic Church in Nigeria. Although independently registered, Caritas Nigeria is an arm of the Church and Society Department of the Catholic Secretariat of Nigeria (CSN). Caritas Nigeria also provided care, treatment and support to over 39,921 patients in ten service delivery health facilities under the CHARIS program which was supported by the United States of America through the Centre for Disease Control and prevention (CDC).

Job Descriptions
  • Provision of technical assistance and capacity building to facility based staff in support of the country’s Anti-retroviral Therapy (ART) treatment adherence and treatment support program.
  • Provide technical input in the development of an integrated program work plan and contribute quota towards ensuring the achievement of program deliverables
  • Scale up continuous quality assurance and quality improvement efforts in maintaining the quality of Care and support for HIV positive patients at the hospital and community levels.
  • Assess quality of community support activities relating to HIV services in and around sites.
  • Ensure adequate community mobilization and sensitization through consistent interaction with key stakeholders to ensure increased service utilization
  • Work with the ART Health care team to establish and strengthen adherence systems within facilities for improved quality of patient care.
  • Assist Treatment facilities and communities in developing their ART support programs.
  • Identify training needs, plan and facilitate on-site training sessions on community based ART interventions.
  • Develop and distribute appropriate job aides and education materials for treatment support staff and volunteers.
  • Monitor the performance of Community HIV outreach and volunteer programs at Treatment Facilities
  • Identify, document and share various treatment models
  • Network with civil service organizations (CSO’s) community based organizations (CBO’s), Faith based organizations (FBO’s) and state agencies involved in HIV Care and strengthen linkages between points of service and organizations in their communities
  • Participates in the development and scaling up of Maternal and Child Health and Palliative Care activities across the sites and communities
  • Collaborate with sites and the treatment teams to decentralize care and support services to satellites and communities.
  • Working with the SCMS team, ensure constant availability and appropriate utilization of basic care kit commodities at facility level
  • Provide an account of program related achievements through site visit, monthly and quarterly reports to supervisor
  • Participate in other miscellaneous activities including representing CCFN, making presentations, professional development, relevant organizational research and abstract writing.

Preferred Skills
  • A Basic Degree in Nursing, Health Sciences or in Public Health, plus at least four years’ experience in HIV care and treatment adherence programming and background in community development activities.
  • Experience in using Microsoft Office suite for word processing, presentations, publication and spreadsheet management.
  • Experience: working with diverse populations and communities.
  • Experience in developing and maintaining effective working relationships with healthcare workers, community members, colleagues and supervisors.
  • Evidence of effective written and verbal communication; attention to detail, organizational and problem solving skills.
