We are recruiting to fill the current position below in our Anglophone West Africa Regional Office in Lagos (Nigeria):
Job Title: Claims Officer
Location: Lagos
Responsibilities
- Reporting directly to the Regional Director of Anglophone West Africa Regional Office, the successful candidate will provide superior service in a cost-effective manner by executing best claims practices while providing support to the underwriting team.
Duties/Job Details
The duties shall comprise amongst others:
- Review of claims notification received from ceadants and brokers
- Maintain proper records of all claims notification and follow up to logical conclusion
- Keep an audit trail of all reported claims
- Ensure prompt processing of all approved claims
- Prepare progress reports on claims development
- Collection of claims and supporting documents
- Manager the follow up and reconciliation of cash credit refunds
- Prompt processing of reported reinsurance claims recoveries
- Follow up cash call refunds with ceadants and brokers
- Process and monitor the development of the outstanding claims provision
- Provide technical; support to the underwriting team and support on facultative underwriting for the Region.
Main Competencies Required for this Position
- In-depth knowledge of appropriate insurance and reinsurance principles, practices and laws as applicable to different lines of business;
- Advanced claims resolution skills and knowledge of insurance/reinsurance and claims principles, practices and procedures;
- Good analytical skills in interpreting clauses in insurance and reinsurance contracts;
- Excellent oral and written communication, including Negotiation and Presentation skills;
- Good supervisory skills and Capacity for taking initiatives and decision;
- Disciplined, Reliable, with very high Integrity and good sense of responsibility;
- Excellent skills in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook) are required; Knowledge of other business-related software will be an added advantage.
Qualifications and Professional Experience
Applicants shall be holders of:
- First University degree plus Masters in relevant fields plus 3 years post qualification relevant qualitative work-related experience with emphasis in a relevant discipline preferably in Insurance/Reinsurance or Insurance Law.
Or
- First University degree in relevant fields plus full professional qualification, plus 3 years post qualification relevant qualitative work-related experience with emphasis in a relevant discipline preferably in Insurance/Reinsurance or Insurance Law
Or
- First University degree in relevant field plus 7 years post qualification relevant qualitative work-related experience with emphasis in a relevant discipline preferably in Insurance/Reinsurance or Insurance Law
- Relevant work experience in a Claims Department of a Reinsurance Company or Reinsurance and/or Claims Department of an Insurance Company is a must. The ideal candidate should have 5-10 years’ of Claims Management experience. Property and Casualty claims experience preferred. Experience in claims management in other lines of business is an added advantage.
- A Degree in Engineering will be an added advantage.
Skills
Applicants must be:
- Fluent in English language
- Working knowledge of French will be an added advantage.
Job Location
The successful candidate shall be based in Lagos (Nigeria) with the possibility of redeployment to another Production Centre within the Africa Re Group.
Remuneration and Benefits

- Competitive Basic Salary on the Corporation’s Grade Level PSi
