Job Title: IGCSE English Language Teacher

Job Summary

  • We are seeking an experienced and certified English teacher to join our team.
  • The ideal candidate will have a strong command of the English language, have a strong background in IGCSE/Cambridge or British curriculum, excellent communication skills, and a passion for teaching.
  • The primary responsibility will be to provide high-quality English language instruction to students at various levels, preparing learners for Cambridge Check point, GCSE, for secondary learners.
  • The teacher will also be responsible for creating engaging lesson plans, assessing student progress, and collaborating with colleagues to ensure a well-rounded educational experience.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, prepare, and deliver engaging and effective English language lessons for students at different levels, utilizing various teaching methodologies and resources.
  • Establish clear learning objectives for each lesson and assess student understanding through formative and summative assessments.
  • Provide individualized feedback and support to students, identifying areas for improvement and setting goals for future progress.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to develop and implement curricula that align with Nigerian education standards and the specific needs of our students.
  • Monitor and track student progress, using data to inform instructional decisions and adapt lesson plans as needed.
  • Maintain a safe and inclusive learning environment that fosters critical thinking, creativity, and cultural awareness.
  • Communicate regularly with parents and guardians, providing updates on student progress and upcoming events or assignments.
  • Participate in ongoing professional development, staying current with best practices in English language instruction and pedagogy.
  • Contribute to the overall success of the school by actively participating in various committees and events.

Requirements

  • A Bachelor's Degree in English Education, or a related field.
  • A valid teaching certification from the Nigeria Certification Board for Education or TRCN.
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience teaching English language in a British educational setting, preferably at the primary or secondary level.
  • Strong command of the English language, including grammar, vocabulary, writing and syntax.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to connect with students from diverse backgrounds.
  • Strong familiarity with Cambridge and GCSE education standards and curriculum guidelines.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and willingness to learn new educational technology tools.
  • Strong organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities effectively.
  • A passion for teaching and a commitment to the growth and development of students.

Preferred Qualifications

  • A master's Degree in English or Literature, Applied Linguistics, or a related field.
  • Experience working with English language learners or in an international school setting.
  • Familiarity with teaching English as a foreign language (TEFL) or teaching English to speakers of other languages (TESOL) methodologies.
  • Experience in curriculum development or instructional coaching.
