Health and Development Support Programme (HANDS) is a homegrown Non-Governmental Organization that is officially registered in Nigeria. It was founded in 1995 with the primary goal of supporting the National Onchocerciasis Control Programme in Nigeria as CBM Onchocerciasis Control programme. Over time, HANDS has broadened its scope to encompass various initiatives aimed at improving public health, fostering development, and providing emergency services. HANDS envisions a quality life with equal opportunities in an inclusive society. The organization collaborates with communities, government agencies, and developmental organizations to achieve its objectives. The organization is active in the FCT and multiple states across Nigeria, focusing on controlling and elimination of Neglected Tropical Diseases (NTDs), preventing blindness, promoting disability inclusion, offering clubfoot treatment, and providing reproductive health, gender mainstreaming and emergency response services. HANDS' headquarters is situated in Jos, Plateau State, Nigeria.

We are recruiting to fill the position below:

Job Title: Programme Officer, Gender-Based Violence, Mental Health and Psychosocial Support

Location: Katsina
Employment Type: Contract

Job Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement strategies to enhance support services for individuals affected by gender-based violence and mental health challenges.
  • Coordinate with stakeholders and partners to ensure effective implementation of programmes addressing GBV, mental health, and psychosocial support.
  • Supervise and support staff at the Katsina office to ensure efficient operations and delivery of quality services in the areas of GBV, mental health, and psychosocial support.
  • Report regularly to the Senior Programme officer in Katsina on progress, challenges, and achievements in addressing GBV, mental health, and psychosocial support.
  • Prepare and submit comprehensive quarterly and annual reports to donors to demonstrate impact and accountability in the GBV/MHSS programmes.
  • Represent the organization at meetings, conferences, and events related to GBV, mental health, and psychosocial support initiatives as assigned by the line Manager.
  • Monitor and evaluate programme activities addressing GBV, mental health, and psychosocial support to assess effectiveness, identify gaps, and recommend improvements.
  • Ensure compliance with organizational policies, donor requirements, and best practices in addressing gender-based violence, mental health, and psychosocial support.
