Awka-Anambra State government has said that it would soon employ about 1,500 holders of the National Certificate of Education, NCE, into the state primary school system.

Chairman of Anambra State Universal Basic Education Board, ASUBEB, Chief Nzemeka Olisa said in Awka, yesterday, that the employment of the teachers was necessitated by the retirement of about 600 teachers in the state school system.

According to him, the board had already promoted about 4,000 teachers, adding that 87 of the teachers were promoted from Grade Level 15 to 16, which accorded them the status of directors.

He explained that the promotion was an accumulation of the exercise for 2012 and 2013, adding that the exercise for 2014/2015 was being compiled and would be released soon.

Olisa said the board had adopted a system that succeeded in checking urban drift of teachers by posting teachers to their home places with the attendant mouth -watering allowances, if such areas were rural communities.
