Job Title: Business Development Officer

Location: Lagos

Job Summary

  • We are looking to employ a driven and detail-oriented business development officer to identify business growth and expansion opportunities of our retail store to new locations.
  • This role requires a strong understanding of market trends, location strategy, and operational feasibility, ensuring that all new store openings contribute to the company’s overall growth and profitability goals.

Key Responsibilities
Market Research & Analysis:

  • Analyzing customer feedback data to determine whether customers are satisfied with company products and services.
  • Conduct in-depth market research to identify high-potential areas for new store locations.
  • Analyze customer demographics, competitor presence, traffic patterns, and local trends to evaluate new markets.
  • Monitor industry trends to ensure the company stays competitive in emerging areas.

Location Identification:

  • Scout potential store locations that align with the company's brand and business model.
  • Collaborate with real estate agents, landlords, and developers to identify prime retail spaces.
  • Analyze the viability of potential sites, considering foot traffic, accessibility, visibility, and local competition.

Feasibility Studies:

  • Perform cost-benefit analysis, including revenue projections, operating expenses, and ROI for each proposed location.
  • Develop and present business cases to senior management, providing recommendations for store expansion decisions.

Partnership Development:

  • Build and maintain relationships with local businesses, developers, and real estate agents to stay informed about upcoming opportunities.
  • Negotiate lease agreements and terms with property owners, ensuring favorable conditions for the company.

Project Management:

  • Oversee the end-to-end process of opening new stores, including planning, coordination with internal teams (such as marketing, operations, and legal), and managing timelines and budgets.
  • Ensure compliance with local laws, zoning regulations, and company standards.

Financial Planning & Reporting:

  • Develop budgets and forecasts for new store openings, including initial setup costs and expected revenue generation.
  • Track and report the financial performance of newly opened stores to assess their contribution to the company’s growth.

Strategic Planning:

  • Work closely with senior management to develop long-term expansion strategies aligned with the company’s overall goals.
  • Recommend improvements to the store expansion process, focusing on scalability and efficiency.

Cross-functional Collaboration:

  • Liaise with marketing, operations, and HR departments to ensure seamless store openings and effective staffing of new locations.
  • Collaborate with legal teams to review contracts and ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business Management or Administration, Finance, Accounting, Marketing, or related field.
  • Proven experience working as a business development officer or similar role.
  • Strong understanding of market research and retail site selection strategies.
  • Excellent negotiation and communication skills.
  • Project management experience, with a focus on retail or food business expansion preferred.
  • Analytical mindset with the ability to conduct financial analysis and feasibility studies.
  • The ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong business acumen.
  • Detail-oriented.
