The Edo State Migration Agency; formal Edo State Taskforce Against Human Trafficking (ETHAT) is established by the Edo State Migration Law to addressing migration-related issues within the state. With a broader mandate, the Agency is tasked to managing migration, protect human rights, combat trafficking in person, facilitate the reintegration of returning migrants and foster sustainable development through effective migration policies.

The agency collaborates with relevant stakeholders to promote a safe and supportive environment for potential and returning migrants.

We are recruiting to fill the position below:

Job Title: Counsellor

Location: Edo

Responsibilities

  • Provide psychosocial support and counselling services to victims of human trafficking and irregular migration.
  • Conduct individual and group counselling sessions to address trauma, stress,  and other psychological issues.
  • Develop and implement counselling plans tailored to the needs of each victim, with a focus on empowerment and resilience.
  • Collaborate with other departments and external partners to ensure holistic support for victims, including access to sheltering services and medical care.
  • Maintain confidentiality and ethical standards in all counselling interactions, while adhering to professional codes of conduct.
  • Provide assitance needed, such as legal aid, healthcare, or vocational training.

Education and Experience (Essential)

  • Bachelor’s degree in  Counselling, Psychology, Social Work, or a related field.
  • Certification or licensure as a professional counsellor or therapist preferred. Experience providing counselling services to victims of trauma, violence, or
  • exploitation, with knowledge of trauma-informed care principles.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to establish rapport and build trust with diverse clients.
  • Ability to work effectively in a high-pressure environment with empathy, patience, and resilience.
  • Knowledge of counselling techniques and interventions, including cognitive- behavioural therapy, narrative therapy, and mindfulness-based approaches.
  • Proficiency in relevant software applications for documentation and case management.
