Job Descriptions
  • The Africa Rice Center (AfricaRice) is seeking four (4) highly qualified Research Associates in Agribusiness Development be based at each of the four selected staple crop processing zones (SCPZ) in Nigeria.
  • The Agribusiness Development Research Associates will be under the supervision of the Rice Commodity Specialist.
  • He/she will lead and drive the technical aspects of the ATASP-1 project in project implementation SCPZs in Nigeria in close collaboration with other project staff.
  • He/she is responsible for all field based operations and processes targeted at achieving ATASP-1 project objectives to improve rice productivity and income at farm level. Each of the successful candidates will be posted at any of the 4 SCPZs with frequent travel to the project communities.
  • The successful candidate will be under the supervision of the Rice Commodity Specialist
Responsibilities
The candidate will undertake the following functions:
  • Drive vehicles within and outside Nigeria to convey ATASP staff, collaborators and visitors.
  • Assist and run errands for project staff members e.g. protocol, delivery of document, packages, supplies and other goods between Staple Crops Processing Zones (SCPZs).
  • Assist in transporting technical staff to and from the farmers’ fields or SCPZs.
  • Record trip details in the vehicle logbook.
  • Care for program vehicle by cleaning, conduct regular check-up of the vehicle and report any malfunction and arrange maintenance.
  • Liaise with insurance Officer to ensure that vehicle documents (local and international) are valid and up to date.
  • Performing selected duties as may be assigned by supervisor.
Job Requirements
  • First School Leaving Certificate, WASC, SSCE or GCE, a valid drivers' license plus a minimum of five (5) years professional driving experience.
  • Previous driving experience with an international organization in Nigeria would be an advantage.
  • Successful candidate must be familiar with Abuja town/Nigerian routes and also be prepared to work extra hours and during weekends (where necessary).
  • Demonstrate ability to speak more than one Nigerian language.
  • Must be able to read and write in English, knowledge of French would be an asset.

  • This is a nationally recruited position
  • The initial appointment is for two years with the possibility for renewal based on annual performance.
