Job Summary

  • The ESG Officer is to drive sustainability initiatives and ensure compliance with ESG standards within the organization.

Job Responsibilities
ESG Strategy Development & Implementation:

  • Develop and implement the company’s ESG strategy in line with global best practices and industry-specific requirements.
  • Identify and prioritize key ESG risks and opportunities for the business.
  • Set measurable ESG targets and track progress to meet environmental, social, and governance goals.

Environmental Compliance & Sustainability Initiatives:

  • Ensure the company complies with all relevant environmental laws and regulations, particularly those governing waste management, emissions, energy use, and resource conservation.
  • Drive sustainability initiatives such as reducing carbon footprint, improving energy efficiency, and enhancing waste reduction and recycling programs within the company’s operations.
  • Collaborate with engineering and operational teams to integrate sustainability principles into product design and manufacturing processes.

Social Responsibility & Community Engagement:

  • Develop and implement strategies to foster positive relationships with local communities, ensuring the company is seen as a responsible corporate citizen.
  • Address and resolve social issues, including worker welfare, health and safety, and community relations, especially in locations where the company operates.
  • Engage with community stakeholders to identify and implement projects that benefit local communities and support sustainable development.

Governance & Reporting:

  • Ensure the company adheres to governance standards and ethical business practices.
  • Develop and maintain ESG reporting frameworks, providing transparent, accurate reports to internal and external stakeholders (investors, regulators, partners).
  • Coordinate with the compliance and legal departments to ensure adherence to international ESG standards and Nigerian regulations.

Stakeholder Engagement:

  • Act as the primary point of contact for all ESG-related inquiries, both internally and externally.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to promote ESG awareness and best practices across the organization.
  • Liaise with government agencies, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), and industry bodies to stay informed of the latest ESG developments and to build partnerships for sustainable development.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Sustainability, Business Administration, Engineering, or related field.
  • Minimum of 5 + years of experience in an ESG, sustainability, or corporate social responsibility role, preferably within the engineering, manufacturing, or industrial sector.
  • Strong understanding of local and international ESG regulations, standards, and reporting frameworks (e.g., GRI, SASB, TCFD).
