Job Description
- We are in need of a skilled and dedicated Transport Equipment Mechanic to join their maintenance team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for the maintenance, repair, and servicing of a wide range of transport equipment, including trucks, trailers, and construction machinery.
- The mechanic will ensure that all vehicles and equipment are in optimal working condition to minimize downtime and support our construction operations.
Responsibilities
- Perform routine maintenance and preventive inspections on transport equipment, including trucks, trailers, and construction vehicles.
- Diagnose mechanical and electrical issues and troubleshoot problems to determine the best repair solutions.
- Repair and replace defective parts, such as engines, transmissions, brakes, electrical systems, and hydraulic components.
- Conduct safety inspections to ensure equipment is compliant with relevant regulations and safety standards.
- Maintain accurate records of maintenance and repair work performed on all equipment.
- Collaborate with the fleet manager and supervisors to develop maintenance schedules and ensure timely servicing of equipment.
- Operate diagnostic tools and software to assess equipment performance and identify potential issues.
- Maintain a clean and organized work environment, ensuring tools and equipment are in good working condition.
- Respond to emergency breakdowns in the field and perform on-site repairs when necessary.
- Assist with the installation of new equipment and parts as needed.
- Ensure that spare parts inventory is kept up-to-date and request additional parts when required.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent; formal training in mechanical repair or a related field is preferred
- Minimum of 12 years of experience in the maintenance and repair of transport equipment (trucks, trailers, construction machinery).
- Strong knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulic systems, electrical systems, and automotive repair techniques.
- Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, diagrams, and schematics.
- Proficient in the use of diagnostic equipment, hand tools, and power tools.
- Experience with welding, fabrication, and general metalworking is a plus.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Ability to work under pressure and handle emergency repairs efficiently.
- Valid driver’s license and the ability to operate various types of transport equipment.
Skills:
- Strong mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic knowledge related to heavy equipment and transportation vehicles.
- Excellent leadership and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively communicate and motivate a team.
- Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
- In-depth knowledge of safety standards, regulations, and best practices for equipment maintenance.
- Ability to use diagnostic tools and equipment for troubleshooting and repair.
- Proficient with fleet management software and Microsoft Office Suite.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift and move heavy equipment and parts (up to 50 lbs) as needed.
- Ability to work in outdoor environments and occasionally in inclement weather.
- Ability to stand, kneel, crouch, and climb for extended periods during inspections and repairs.
Additional Requirements:
- Valid driver’s license and a clean driving record.
- Forklift and heavy equipment operator certifications are a plus.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, as required.
