Job Description

  • We are in need of a skilled and dedicated Transport Equipment Mechanic to join their maintenance team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for the maintenance, repair, and servicing of a wide range of transport equipment, including trucks, trailers, and construction machinery.
  • The mechanic will ensure that all vehicles and equipment are in optimal working condition to minimize downtime and support our construction operations.

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine maintenance and preventive inspections on transport equipment, including trucks, trailers, and construction vehicles.
  • Diagnose mechanical and electrical issues and troubleshoot problems to determine the best repair solutions.
  • Repair and replace defective parts, such as engines, transmissions, brakes, electrical systems, and hydraulic components.
  • Conduct safety inspections to ensure equipment is compliant with relevant regulations and safety standards.
  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance and repair work performed on all equipment.
  • Collaborate with the fleet manager and supervisors to develop maintenance schedules and ensure timely servicing of equipment.
  • Operate diagnostic tools and software to assess equipment performance and identify potential issues.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work environment, ensuring tools and equipment are in good working condition.
  • Respond to emergency breakdowns in the field and perform on-site repairs when necessary.
  • Assist with the installation of new equipment and parts as needed.
  • Ensure that spare parts inventory is kept up-to-date and request additional parts when required.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent; formal training in mechanical repair or a related field is preferred
  • Minimum of 12 years of experience in the maintenance and repair of transport equipment (trucks, trailers, construction machinery).
  • Strong knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulic systems, electrical systems, and automotive repair techniques.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, diagrams, and schematics.
  • Proficient in the use of diagnostic equipment, hand tools, and power tools.
  • Experience with welding, fabrication, and general metalworking is a plus.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to work under pressure and handle emergency repairs efficiently.
  • Valid driver’s license and the ability to operate various types of transport equipment.

  • Strong mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic knowledge related to heavy equipment and transportation vehicles.
  • Excellent leadership and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively communicate and motivate a team.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • In-depth knowledge of safety standards, regulations, and best practices for equipment maintenance.
  • Ability to use diagnostic tools and equipment for troubleshooting and repair.
  • Proficient with fleet management software and Microsoft Office Suite.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift and move heavy equipment and parts (up to 50 lbs) as needed.
  • Ability to work in outdoor environments and occasionally in inclement weather.
  • Ability to stand, kneel, crouch, and climb for extended periods during inspections and repairs.

Additional Requirements:

  • Valid driver’s license and a clean driving record.
  • Forklift and heavy equipment operator certifications are a plus.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, as required.
