Center for Advocacy, Transparency and Accountability Initiative (CATAI) was established in 2018 as a registered NGO with Head Office in Maiduguri - Borno State, and with offices across Yobe and Adamawa States. We have been visible in Borno Adamawa and Yobe states implementing projects in Education, Protection (Child /GBV), WaSH, Nutrition, Empowerment/Livelihood, Governance and Peace Building. Our approach is aligned with our mission to enhance services delivery and empower citizens, through our Humanitarian, Development, and peace building nexus (HDP).

We are recruiting to fill the position below:

Job Title: Gender-Based Violence (GBV) Assistant

Location: Monguno, Borno
Employment Type: Contract
Position Reports to: GBV Officer
Position directly supervises: GBV Caseworkers

Job summary

  • Under the management of the GBV Officer, in close cooperation with GBV team members, the GBV Assistant will be 100% field based and will provide SGBV case management and counseling interventions, and conduct emotional support groups with women, girls and survivors of gender-based violence.
  • The GBV Assistant will support the adequate implementation and coordination of CATAI’s protection objectives and activities.

Responsibilities

  • Provide counseling to GBV survivors and refer to case management services when needed;
  • File and store GBV data in the gender-based violence information management systems (GBVIMS and GBVIMS+) in compliance with the information sharing protocol developed at the inter-agency level;
  • Provide emotional support group sessions to women and girls at risk of or survivors of gender-based violence in compliance with best-practice and CATAI’s guidelines;
  • Conduct awareness raising to encourage help-seeking behavior of GBV survivors
  • Disseminate action-oriented, specific, inclusive, and supportive messaging on available services for GBV survivors
  • Make referrals for health care and multidisciplinary range of services for GVB survivors
  • Assess and map available services for GBV survivors
  • Provide targeted assistance for urgent needs of GBV survivors
  • Provide information to survivors women and girls vulnerable to GBV
  • Assist the GBV officer and GBV Manager in the implementation of GBV program activities
  • Maintains active presence in the field to ensure proper technical support, implementation and supervision and monitoring of GBV activities.

Requirements

  • 2 - 3 years of experience working in the field of prevention and response to GBV;
  • Knowledge of GBV, child protection and PSS basic principles;
  • Demonstrated experience in working on women's protection such as empowerment programs, reproductive health, counseling, etc.
  • Previous experience in working with communities, running GBV prevention curricula, raising awareness and providing services in shelters and village settings.
  • Must have in-depth technical expertise on Protection, Women and Girls’ safe spaces programming and Gender Based Violence related issues including having a clear understanding of gender inequality, and issues surrounding discrimination and violence against women and girls.

Desirable:

  • Knowledge of the negative impacts of early marriage on the individual, family and community level;
  • Knowledge of the negative impacts of child labor on child development;
  • Knowledge about basic reproductive health;
  • Commitment to achieve gender equality and end all forms of Gender Based Violence
  • Computer skills, including knowledge of Excel.
  • Understanding of operational context of Monguno.

Required:

  • Good communication and psychosocial first aid skills;
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Fluency English, Kanuri Hausa and Shuwa
  • Proven record of providing trainings and workshops on gender and GBV, SRH, topics in a variety of settings.
  • Excellent Analytical, Communication and Report writing skills; Excellent Negotiation and Conflict Resolution skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to establish effective working relations with local staff, beneficiaries, duty bearers and other stakeholders
  • Ability to ensure quality data collection, compile and analyses data to formulate relevant recommendations
  • Ability to write quality reports in English and submit them on time.
