In Nigeria, Save the Children has been working since 2001. The early focus was on getting children actively involved in shaping the decisions that affect their lives. Today, Save the Children is working in seven federal states - Zamfara, Yobe, Jigawa, Katsina, Kano, Bauchi and Kaduna - focusing on providing basic healthcare and protecting children.

We are recruiting to fill the position of:

Job Title: Household Economic Approach Advisor

Location: Abuja

Job Description
  • Under the general direction and guidance of the Programme Development and Quality Director and the Food Security Adviser in Abuja, Nigeria, and the HEA Sahel Regional Project Manager based in Dakar, Senegal ensure all activities related to the HEA Sahel project in Nigeria are implemented with high quality and in a timely manner.
  • The post-holder shall also contribute to the development and/review of the country strategic direction.
Qualifications
  • B.Sc in Agricultural Economics, Development Economics, or other relevant discipline or minimum of 2 years’ experience in food security and livelihoods programming (ideally in the Sahel belt of Nigeria) with excellent understanding of the Household Economy Approach (HEA) framework and ability to lead baseline assessments; excellent understanding of the Outcome Analysis framework and related spread-sheets, and ability to lead seasonal outcome assessments with minimal support;
  • Strong commitment to capacity building of nations staff and partners with willingness to adopt a participatory and consultative approach;
  • Experience of working in insecure/conflict situations and security management;
  • Willingness to travel regularly and in difficult circumstances;
Desirable
  • Knowledge and understanding of SPHERE Standard and other principles of humanitarian work;
  • Experience in promoting children’s participation in programme design, implementation and evaluation;
  • Good understanding of poverty reduction strategy frameworks and related processes;
  • High knowledge of database management tools and data analysis tools (VBA programming, MySQL, Access, Advanced Excel functions).
