Job Title: Commissioning Engineer

Location: Nigeria

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Develop detailed commissioning plans, schedules, and procedures to ensure all pipeline systems and equipment are operational before handover to the client.
  • Collaborate with project engineers and contractors to review and approve design documents, ensuring they align with commissioning requirements.
  • Coordinate and prepare the commissioning team with tools, materials, and documentation required for efficient startup operations.
  • Oversee the inspection of mechanical, electrical, and control systems on-site to ensure compliance with design specifications and regulatory standards.
  • Conduct functional, operational, and performance testing on pipeline systems, valves, pumps, and instrumentation.
  • Ensure all pre-commissioning, commissioning, and start-up checks are completed as per project specifications.
  • Identify and troubleshoot any issues during the commissioning process, recommending corrective actions or modifications to overcome technical challenges.
  • Work closely with project teams to ensure prompt resolution of design or operational problems during the pipeline start-up phase.
  • Ensure all commissioning activities follow internal quality management procedures and meet industry standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Verify that safety procedures are consistently followed, ensuring a safe working environment for all personnel.
  • Generate detailed reports of commissioning activities, results, and discrepancies for client and project management review.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of commissioning tests, inspections, and commissioning systems or equipment to ensure proper recording of all phases.
  • Compile commissioning reports, highlighting operational readiness, equipment performance, and test results for project management and client review.
  • Develop and track punch lists, ensuring that all items are addressed before the final handover.
  • Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and other specialists during all stages of commissioning to ensure smooth operations and project delivery.
  • Prepare the systems for final handover to the client, ensuring that all equipment is functioning properly and meet all contractual specifications.
  • Interface with clients to ensure their specifications and requirements are met, while maintaining effective relationships throughout the commissioning phase.
  • Coordinate with vendors and suppliers to ensure the timely availability and functionality of commissioned systems.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • A degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or related discipline.
  • Minimum of 8+ years experience in commissioning engineering within the pipeline construction or energy infrastructure sector, with experience using commissioning software or tools to manage documentation and testing
  • Previous experience working with large-scale pipeline construction projects, including systems integration, testing, and startup.
  • Must be certified in the following areas of competence: Registered Engineer (COREN) or its equivalent, PMP Certified Project Manager, ISA/IEC 61511 Certification, API 1169, NACE Coating Inspector Certification (CIP Level 1/2)
