Job Summary

  • The News Editor is a versatile professional responsible for sourcing, writing, editing, and publishing high-quality news content.
  • Acting as the sole reporter, writer, and editor, this role requires managing the entire news production cycle, from idea generation to final publication, while ensuring accuracy, relevance, and timeliness.

Key Responsibilities
News Sourcing & Research:

  • Monitor news trends, breaking news, and developments across local, national, and international platforms.
  • Build a network of sources and contacts for credible news and information.
  • Stay updated on current events and topics relevant to the audience.

Content Creation:

  • Write clear, engaging, and factual news articles, reports, and features.
  • Conduct interviews with key stakeholders, subject-matter experts, and witnesses as necessary.
  • Develop original story ideas and ensure diverse coverage.

Editing & Proofreading:

  • Edit all written content for grammar, style, and accuracy.
  • Ensure adherence to editorial standards and ethical guidelines.
  • Fact-check all content to maintain reliability and credibility.

News Publishing & Management:

  • Prepare news content for various platforms, including print, digital, and social media.
  • Optimize articles for SEO and audience engagement.
  • Respond quickly to breaking news, ensuring timely updates.

Audience Engagement & Analysis:

  • Monitor audience feedback and engagement to refine content.
  • Analyze readership metrics to understand audience preferences.
  • Adjust news coverage strategies based on audience insights.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Journalism, Mass Communication, or a related field.
  • 3-5 years in journalism or content creation, with a proven ability to manage multiple responsibilities.
  • Exceptional writing and editing skills.
  • Strong research and fact-checking abilities.
  • Proficiency in digital publishing tools and platforms.
  • Ability to work independently and meet tight deadlines.
  • Familiarity with media laws and ethical standards.
  • Understanding of audience analytics and SEO.
