Description
- We are recruiting to fill the position of a Sonologist. The job holder will be responsible for performing diagnostic ultrasound procedures to assist in the accurate diagnosis of medical conditions. They interpret ultrasound images, prepare reports, and provide professional guidance to physicians and other healthcare professionals.
Key Responsibilities
Clinical Responsibilities:
- Conduct diagnostic ultrasound examinations, including abdominal, pelvic, obstetric, vascular, musculoskeletal, and small parts imaging.
- Evaluate the medical history and clinical information provided to determine appropriate imaging protocols.
- Interpret ultrasound findings and provide accurate, detailed reports for referring physicians.
- Assist in interventional procedures like ultrasound-guided biopsies or fluid aspirations as needed.
- Identify abnormalities in images and communicate urgent findings to the referring physician promptly.
Patient Care:
- Explain procedures to patients and address any questions or concerns they may have.
- Maintain patient confidentiality and comply with healthcare regulations regarding patient data.
- Recognize and address complications or emergencies during examinations.
Equipment Operation and Maintenance:
- Operate and maintain ultrasound equipment, ensuring it is in good working condition.
- Troubleshoot minor technical issues and liaise with the biomedical team for repairs or servicing.
- Stay updated with advancements in ultrasound technology and techniques.
Documentation and Reporting:
- Document patient information, imaging findings, and technical details accurately in the hospital's information system.
- Provide preliminary reports and collaborate with radiologists for final interpretations when necessary.
- Maintain detailed records of all diagnostic procedures performed.
Compliance and Safety:
- Adhere to hospital policies, standard operating procedures, and local/national medical regulations.
- Follow safety protocols to minimize patient and staff exposure to risks.
- Ensure proper disposal of medical waste generated during procedures.
Qualifications and Experience
- Education: Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery (MBBS) or equivalent; Postgraduate Diploma / Degree in Ultrasonography or Radiology is an added advantage.
- Licensure: Valid medical license to practice as a sociologist in Nigeria.
- Experience: Minimum of 3–5 years experience in performing and interpreting ultrasound examinations.
Skills:
- Proficiency in operating ultrasound equipment.
- Strong analytical and interpretive skills for accurate diagnosis.
- Excellent communication and patient interaction skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team.
