The Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University, ATBU, Bauchi was established in 1980 as the Federal University of Technology (FUT), Bauchi, located in the North Eastern part of Nigeria with Dr. Jerome Udoji and Professor A. O. Adekola as the pioneer Pro-Chancellor and Vice-Chancellor respectively, while Alh. Adamu Aliyu was the first Registrar of the University.

Job Title: Director, Physical Planning Unit

Job Description

  • The Director of the physical planning unit is responsible for the overall planning and development of the university's physical infrastructure, including buildings, roads, parks, gardens, and utilities.
  • The successful candidate will provide strategic leadership and direction for the Physical Planning Unit, ensuring the design of a safe, functional, and conducive to learning envoronment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic leadership and direction for the Physical Planning Unit.
  • Develop and implement the university's physical development, master plans, and policies.
  • Coordinate the preparation of master plans, and detailed designs, for university projects.
  • Manage the unit's budget and resources.
  • Supervise and evaluate the performance of staff in the Physical Planning Unit.

Requirements

  • At least a second-class lower, honors degree in a relevant field (e.g., Architecture, Urban and Regional Planning, Civil Engineering).
  • A minimum of 15 years of post-qualification experience in physical planning, architecture, or a related field, with at least 5 years in a senior management position in a university or similar institution.
  • Proven experience in managing physical infrastructure development in a university or similar institution.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills. v. Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Registration with relevant professional bodies (e.g., Nigerian Institute of Architects, Nigerian Institute of Town Planners).

Conditions of Service

  • The successful candidate will be appointed for a single term of four (4) years and entitled to the benefits and allowances approved by the Federal Government of Nigeria and the Governing Council as the case may be.
