The Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University, ATBU, Bauchi was established in 1980 as the Federal University of Technology (FUT), Bauchi, located in the North Eastern part of Nigeria with Dr. Jerome Udoji and Professor A. O. Adekola as the pioneer Pro-Chancellor and Vice-Chancellor respectively, while Alh. Adamu Aliyu was the first Registrar of the University.

Job Title: Director, Medical Services

Location: Bauchi

Job Description

  • The Director of Medical Services is responsible for providing strategic leadership and direction for the university's medical services, ensuring the provision of high-quality medical care to students, staff, and the university community.
  • The successful candidate will oversee the management of the university's health facilities, including the University Health Centre, clinics, and other medical facilities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic leadership and direction for the university's medical services.
  • Oversee the management of the university's health facilities. iii. Develop and implement policies and procedures for medical services.
  • Coordinate the provision of medical care to students, staff, and the university community.
  • Supervise and evaluate the performance of medical staff.
  • Collaborate with external healthcare providers and regulatory bodies.
  • Manage the budget and resources of the medical services department.

Requirements

  • MBBS+NYSC or evidence of exemption.
  • Evidence of current registration with the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN).
  • Professional certification in Medicine (e.g., FWACP, FMCP, FRCP).
  • A minimum of 15 years of post-qualification experience in medical practice with at least three (3) years satisfactory service as Chief Medical Officer in a University or Teaching Hospital.
  • Proven experience in managing medical services in a university or similar institution.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.

Conditions of Service

  • The successful candidate will be appointed for a single term of four (4) years and entitled to the benefits and allowances approved by the Federal Government of Nigeria and the Governing Council as the case may be.
