The Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University, ATBU, Bauchi was established in 1980 as the Federal University of Technology (FUT), Bauchi, located in the North Eastern part of Nigeria with Dr. Jerome Udoji and Professor A. O. Adekola as the pioneer Pro-Chancellor and Vice-Chancellor respectively, while Alh. Adamu Aliyu was the first Registrar of the University.

Job Title: Director of Sports

Location: Bauchi

Job Summary

  • The Director of Sports is responsible for providing strategic leadership and direction for the university's sports programs, ensuring the development of sports facilities, and promoting sports excellence among students and staff.
  • The successful candidate will oversee the management of sports facilities, including stadiums, gymnasiums, and fields, and ensure the university's participation in local, national and sports competitions as the case may be.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic leadership and direction for the university's sports programs.
  • Develop and implement policies and procedures for sports development.
  • Oversee the management of sports facilities, including maintenance and upgrading.
  • Promote sports excellence among students and staff.
  • Collaborate with academic departments to integrate sports with academic programs.
  • Supervise and evaluate the performance of sports staff.
  • Manage the budget and resources of the sports department.

Requirements

  • A minimum of second-class lower honors degree B.Ed (PHE) / Sports Science.
  • A minimum of 15 years of post-qualification experience in sports management, with at least 3 years of experience as Deputy Director of sports in a university.
  • Proven experience in managing sports programs and facilities.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Applicants should not be over sixty (60) years old

Conditions of Service

  • The successful candidate will be appointed for a single term of four (4) years and entitled to the benefits and allowances approved by the Federal Government of Nigeria and the Governing Council as the case may be.
