Summary
  • The Head of School is responsible for promoting EAGLE HEIGHTS EARLY LEARNING ACADEMY’s philosophy and ideals, while insuring that the school’s mission, vision and goals are effectively implemented.
  • The Head of School leads the school both internally and externally, and oversees the day-to-day operations, working collaboratively with the Board of Directors, staff, students, families, alumni and greater community.
General Duties
  • Primarily provides leadership and direction to all staff
  • Support and promote the vision and goals of EHELA by exhibiting leadership skills and strengthen the success of the school through quality education for its children
  • Guide and facilitate activities of the children, including: daily activities, field trips, selecting and arranging equipment and materials in the classroom;
  • Cooperate with other staff and classroom groups to maintain the smooth functioning of the center, which at times may require changes to meet the needs of the children;
  • Maintain a comprehensive and ongoing portfolio assessment for each child, including weekly observations in each area, examples of the child's work, and a developmental assessment, completed as per EHELA procedure;
  • Use home visits and parent conferences to discuss the child's individual development and progress, assist the parents in developing observational skills and solicit parent observations;
  • Assist children in development of social and self-help skills, and sound nutritional practices;
  • Meet bi-weekly with the governing body to exchange information pertinent to the identification and services of children with disabilities;
  • Guide children's acquisition of social skills;
  • Attend staff training and meetings, and board and parent meetings as requested;
  • Works with Teachers, Teacher Assistants and volunteers to use and develop their skills and abilities in planning and carrying out classroom activities;
  • Maintain a safe and healthy classroom environment. Assure that classroom equipment, furniture, materials, and supplies are properly maintained and stored;
  • Use the playground as an extension of the classroom; assures that the playground is safe;
  • Coordinate the French and Spanish programs across all classrooms
  • Assist in conducting the daily health and environment checklist;
  • Act as the school’s representative, promoting and raising its profile in the wider community.
  • Assist in recruiting and orienting staff, providing them with guidance as needed,
  • Maintain the school’s discipline policy in a consistent and respectful manner
  • Complete and submit required forms and records in a timely and accurate fashion, e.g., lesson plans, time sheets, meal reports etc.;
Oversight:
  • Prepare scheme of work and review teachers' lesson plans, schedules, room arrangements and portfolio assessments to assure their accordance with EHELA curricula requirements;
  • Deliver pre-service and monthly in-service training sessions to teaching staff;
  • Provide a minimum of two child development workshops to parents;
  • Identify and prioritize materials and equipment needed in classrooms and playgrounds, and coordinate with the school’s admin in making purchases;
  • Coordinate the transition of children to Kindergarten and/or child care programs.
  • Actively participate in the development and implementation of the Teacher professional development plan;
  • Ensure that files are complete, accurate, and confidentially maintained;
  • Perform other duties, as may be required.
  • To be responsible for the efficient day-to-day running of the school and overall delivery of a high-quality service.
  • To ensure that the school provides a safe, caring, stimulating educational environment, both indoors and outdoors, at every session.
  • To ensure that the pre plans an appropriate play based Early Years curriculum that enables children to make individual progress.
  • To ensure the school plans appropriately for children.
  • To manage, supervise and support the school staff.
  • To ensure all staff understand and work to the school’s policies and procedures, including how to deal with child protection issues appropriately and how to respond to incidents, accidents, complaints and emergencies.
  • To ensure that the school implements it’s Equal Opportunities policy and is welcoming to children and families from all cultures, family groups and circumstances and with or without special needs.
  • To continually evaluate and reflect on your own practice. To keep up-to-date with the latest ideas and developments in the early years field through attending early year’s meetings and training courses and reading relevant publications and to encourage and support staff members and volunteers in doing the same.
  • Ensure that the school is in compliance with all applicable governmental laws and guidelines
  • Perform other duties, as may be required by the school’s governing body.
Main Duties
  • To provide overall management of E.H.E.L.A and ensure that legal requirements and quality standards are met at all times.
  • To plan, with the school’s governing body, an appropriate play-based curriculum which is based on children’s current interests and stages of development and which allows children opportunities for learning and development in all key areas of learning both indoors and outdoors.
  • To ensure the school operates the key person system and that regular observations are carried out on all children and their progress recorded and shared with parents, both formally and informally.
  • To head the staff team and convene regular staff meetings.
School Session Management:
  • To ensure appropriate equipment and materials are set up before the children arrive, both indoors and outdoors, and are tidied away at the end of every session and the room left clean for the next session.
  • To ensure all activities, equipment and other resources are presented attractively with the support of appropriate books.
  • To ensure a daily register is taken at the beginning and end of each session and appropriate paperwork is kept during each session, to include accident books, medication records, risk assessments etc.
  • To ensure that children are properly supervised at all times both indoor and outdoor also, that appropriate caregivers ratio children are maintained at all times.
  • To ensure all health, hygiene and safety issues are addressed.
  • Ensure that the statutory requirements for the national curriculum are met and that all children are enabled to access a broad, balanced and relevant curriculum.
Working with Parents and Professionals:
  • To communicate with parents in a positive, sensitive and constructive manner, encouraging parental involvement in the sessions.
Management / Administration:
  • To ensure fee collection and other financial records are kept correctly in accordance with E.H.E.L.A Guidelines.
  • Help guide teachers in achieving their educational goals
  • To monitor expendable materials and equipment generally and ensure that orders are placed in a timely manner.
  • To ensure a qualified first aider is available at every session and that the contents of the first aid box are regularly checked and replenished as necessary.
  • To provide on-going supervision and an annual appraisal for the school staff team.
School Facilities, Equipment, Daily Operations:
  • Oversee daily operations of the school, ensuring a safe, clean and friendly environment.
  • Attend to tasks and responsibilities associated with successful operation of school (e.g. communication, security, maintenance).
  • Supervise the maintenance of all school equipment.
  • Advise school board on facilities and equipment improvement.
