AFL is set up to reach a 0.5 million-ton per year capacity for high strength rebars and allied products.

Job Title: Quality Control Inspector

Location: Ogijo, Ogun
Employment Type: Full-time

Job Summary 

  • Quality Control Inspector in the steel industry isresponsible for meticulously examining and testing steel products throughout the production process, ensuring they meet established quality standards, specifications, and industry regulations by visually inspecting, measuring dimensions, conducting non-destructive testing (NDT), and documenting any deviations to maintain product consistency and safety.

Key Responsibilities

  • Visual Inspection: Conduct thorough visual inspections of steel billets, slabs, sheets, bars, and other products to identify surface defects like cracks, scratches, inclusions, or irregularities.
  • Dimensional Measurement: Utilize measuring tools (calipers, micrometers, gauges) to verify that steel products adhere to specified dimensions regarding thickness, width, length, and tolerances.
  • Non-Destructive Testing (NDT): Perform NDT methods like ultrasonic testing, magnetic particle inspection, or eddy current testing to detect internal flaws within the steel.
  • Sampling and Testing: Collect representative samples of steel products for laboratory analysis to verify chemical composition and mechanical properties (tensile strength, yield strength, hardness).
  • Data Recording and Reporting: Document inspection findings, test results, and any non-conforming items on detailed reports, identifying the root cause of issues and recommending corrective actions.
  • Process Monitoring: Monitor the steel production process, identifying potential quality issues early on and communicating necessary adjustments to production operators.
  • Quality Control Audits: Conduct regular quality control audits to ensure compliance with established standards and procedures.
  • Calibration and Maintenance: Maintain and calibrate inspection equipment to ensure accuracy and reliability.
  • Collaboration with Production Teams: Work closely with production personnel to address quality concerns, troubleshoot issues, and implement corrective actions.

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • Technical Knowledge: Strong understanding of steel manufacturing processes, metallurgy, and quality standards relevant to the steel industry.
  • Inspection Techniques: Proficiency in using various inspection tools and methods including visual inspection, dimensional measurement, and NDT techniques.
  • Data Analysis: Ability to interpret test results, analyze data, and identify trends to inform quality improvement initiatives.
  • Attention to Detail: High level of accuracy and meticulousness to detect even minor defects.
  • Communication Skills: Effective communication to clearly report quality issues and collaborate with production teams.
  • Quality Assurance Standards: Familiarity with relevant quality management systems (ISO standards).
