Job Title: Head of Accounts

Location: Abuja

Job Summary

  • The Head of Accounts is responsible for overseeing the company’s financial operations, ensuring accuracy in financial reporting, compliance with regulatory standards, and the implementation of strong financial controls. 
  • This role requires a highly analytical and strategic professional with expertise in accounting, taxation, budgeting, and financial management. 
  • The ideal candidate will provide leadership to the accounting team, drive efficiency in financial processes, and support the organization’s financial decision-making.

Key Responsibilities
Financial Reporting & Compliance:

  • Oversee the preparation of accurate and timely financial statements.
  • Ensure compliance with local tax laws, IFRS, and other financial regulations.
  • Liaise with auditors, tax authorities, and regulatory bodies.

Budgeting & Financial Planning:

  • Develop annual budgets and monitor financial performance against targets.
  • Provide financial analysis and forecasting to support decision-making.
  • Ensure cost control measures are in place to optimize profitability.

Accounts Management & Reconciliation:

  • Supervise accounts payable, receivable, and general ledger activities.
  • Ensure proper bank reconciliation and cash flow management.
  • Implement internal controls to prevent fraud and financial mismanagement.

Team Leadership & Process Improvement:

  • Lead and mentor the accounting team for improved efficiency and performance.
  • Implement automation and process improvements in financial operations.
  • Provide financial insights to senior management and key stakeholders.

Tax & Regulatory Compliance:

  • Oversee tax filings (VAT, PAYE, WHT, and corporate tax).
  • Ensure accurate payroll processing and statutory deductions.
  • Keep up to date with changes in financial regulations and tax laws.

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)

  • Accuracy of Financial Reports:Ensure 100% error-free financial statements.
  • Budget Adherence:Maintain financial performance within approved budgets.
  • Compliance Rate:Ensure 100% compliance with tax and regulatory requirements.
  • Cash Flow Management:Maintain optimal liquidity with zero cash shortages.
  • Audit & Risk Management:Address all audit queries with minimal adjustments.

Criteria for Success:

  • Strong leadership and financial management skills.
  • High level of integrity and ethical financial practices.
  • Ability toanalyzecomplex financial data and provide strategic recommendations.
  • Proficiency in financial software and accounting systems.
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.

Job Requirements
Educational Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • Professional certification (ICAN, ACCA, or CPA) is mandatory.
  • A Master’s degree (MBA or MSc Finance) is an added advantage.

Experience:

  • Minimum of 7-10 years in accounting/finance, with at least 3 years in a leadership role.
  • Experience in financial reporting, taxation, and budgeting.
  • Strong background in internal control and risk management.

Skills & Competencies:

  • Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, SAP, or Oracle).
  • Excellent analytical, communication, and leadership skills.
  • In-depth knowledge of IFRS and local tax regulations.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet strict deadlines.
