Job Title: Data Protection Officer

Location: Lagos

Job Summary

  • The Data Protection Officer (DPO) ensures the company complies with the Nigeria Data Protection Act (NDPA)and other relevant regulations, overseeing data privacy across all business units.
  • This role involves advising management, handling regulatory compliance, and promoting a strong data protection culture.

Job Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and maintain adata privacy programaligned with the NDPA and other regulations.
  • Draft and updatedata protection policies, procedures, and training materialsfor company-wide compliance.
  • ConductPrivacy Impact Assessments (PIAs)for new projects, technologies, and business initiatives.
  • Deliverdata protection trainingto employees.
  • Establish and managedata subject requestprocesses (access, rectification, erasure).
  • Develop and implement adata breach response planand manage incidents.
  • Reviewthird-party contractsto ensure vendor compliance with data protection standards.
  • Act as the primarycontact for the NDPC, managing inquiries and regulatory interactions.
  • Advise management onprivacy by designand integrate data protection into risk assessments.
  • Stay updated onglobal data protection lawsand recommend improvements.
  • Provide regularreports to senior managementon compliance status and risks.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Law, IT, or a related field (Master’s or certifications like CIPP/E, CIPM, CIPT, CISSP preferred).
  • 5-7 years’ experience in data protection, privacy compliance, and program management.
  • Strong knowledge ofNDPA, GDPR, and related regulations.
  • Experience handlingPIAs, data breaches, and regulatory interactions.
  • Understanding ofIT systems, cloud environments, and Microsoft 365.
  • Knowledge ofdata governance and security best practices.
  • Familiarity withweb and application developmentis a plus.
  • Strongcommunication, analytical, and problem-solvingabilities.
  • Ability towork independently, influence stakeholders, and handle multiple priorities.
  • High ethical standards and attention to detail.
