Duties and Responsibilities
- Development and execution of the Environment Action Plan of ECOWAS Environment Policy
- Assists in the formulation, execution and review of policies and programs on Environment
- Coordinates the initiatives on the Sub Regional Action Programme on Desertification
- Coordinates the initiatives on the Sub Regional Action Programme on Climate Change
- Drafting of administrative letters to the different partners of ECOWAS.
- Prepares periodic progress in the implementation of the ECOWAS Environmental policy
- Develops Indicators on EIA for the Sub Region and follows their implementation
- Develops a system of monitoring and Evaluation in the implementation of the different programmes of the ECOWAS environmental policy.
- Maintain working relationship with the other officers of the Department of Agriculture, Environment and Water Resources, especially with the other Principal Programme Officers with a view to ensuring complementarities of duties.
- Any other duty that may be assigned by the Director of Environment and Water Resources
Qualifications/Experience/Skills
- A bachelor's degree in Rural Development, Environment Science, Forestry, or any related field.
- Ten (10) years professional experience with two (2) years in a managerial or supervisory capacity.
- Possession of a higher degree would reduce the required professional experience to eight (8) years with two (2) in a supervisory or managerial capacity.
- Knowledge of International programmes and policies on environment would be an advantage.
- Must have a sound organisational capacity.
- Sub-regional experience will be an advantage.
- Must be computer literate.
- Candidate should not be 50 years old or over at the point of recruitment and must be a citizen of one of the ECOWAS member states.
- Must be fluent in one of the official languages of the Commission; English, French and Portuguese. A working knowledge of another would be an advantage.
