Job Title: Maritime Security Liaison Officer (MSLO)
Location: Port Harcourt, Rivers
Position Overview
- Position Overview: As an MSLO, you will be responsible for ensuring the safety and security of vessels, crew, and cargo in vessel operations.
- You'll be required to work closely with the ship's crew, the company management and operations teams as well as with maritime authorities to ensure smooth operations, vessel safety, and compliance regulatory obligations.
Key Responsibilities
- Act as the primary liaison between vessel operators, security teams, and maritime authorities.
- Assess and mitigate security risks for vessels operating in high-risk waters. Conduct security briefings for crew members on potential threats and safety procedures.
- Monitor and manage access control into the vessel to prevent unauthorised boarding.
- Coordinate with security personnel and ensure adherence to standard operating procedures (SOPs).
- Ensure proper storage and handling of security equipment (e.g., CCTV, alarm systems, weapons if applicable).
- Continuously monitor maritime security threats, including piracy, terrorism, and smuggling.
- Establish and maintain communication with coastal authorities, naval personnel, and private security firms where necessary.
- Respond to security incidents and coordinate with emergency response teams. Maintain an updated intelligence network on regional maritime threats.
- Ensure the vessel complies with flag state security regulations and international protocols.
- Maintain records of security incidents, patrol logs, and crew security training.
- Prepare reports on security assessments and recommend corrective actions. Liaise with port security officers (PSOS) and law enforcement agencies vessel on arrival and departure.
Skills & Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Maritime Security, Criminology, International Relations, Nautical Science, or a related field.
- STCW Certification (Standards of Training, Certification, and Watchkeeping for Seafarers).
- Minimum of 3 years experience in a similar role onboard a vessel or in the maritime industry (military, paramilitary, or law enforcement background is an added advantage).
- Strong situational awareness and threat assessment capabilities.
- Excellent problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a multicultural team.
- Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
