The Institute of Human Virology (IHVN) is a leading and reputable indigenous non-governmental organization implementing a comprehensive family-focused HIV/AIDS prevention, care and treatment program in partnership with local and international organizations and the different tiers of the Government of Nigeria at national, state, local and site levels.

We are recruiting to fill the position of:

Job Title: Program Officer Laboratory (AKTH)

Location:
Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital, AKTH, Kano
Scheduled Work Times: Monday - Friday
Reports To: Senior Program Officer, Laboratory

Summary/Overview
  • The Program Officer Laboratory AKTH would be responsible for overseeing all laboratory activities in all supported sites in the LGAs in Kano State.
Essential Functions
The Program Officer, Laboratory (AKTH) shall:
  • Ensure Standard of Care tests are performed at supported facilities
  • Supervise sites to produce qualitative and reliable results
  • Ensure, through mentoring and supervision, that Good Laboratory Practice is implemented in IHVN supported sites in Local Government Authorities (LGAs) in the state
  • Be responsible for laboratory data management and ensure information is sent to the Field Operations Unit, Central Laboratory Department
  • Be responsible for strengthening communication between the laboratory team within the facility and IHVN Central Laboratory Department
  • Be part of State IHVN Quality Improvement Teams (QITs) and work closely with the Facility QITs
  • Ensure effective use of the mobile laboratory operations
  • Be involved in Dry Tube Specimen (DTS) preparations for sites in Kano Region.
  • Ensure sites implement Quality Management System (QMS).
  • Perform every other duty necessary for the successful implementation of the programs
Education/Experience
  • Must have a degree in Medical Laboratory Science acceptable to MLSCN (for registration).
  • At least 5 years working experience in a Medical Laboratory
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Must possess good program management experience.
  • Must have at least 5 years working experience in diagnostic laboratory.
  • Should be reliable, proactive and visionary.
  • Must be creative in program design/planning and implementation towards achieving set goals
Desirable:
  • Experience in HIV/AIDS program implementation
  • Experience working with databases
