Role Overview
- The Accountant is responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, producing detailed financial reports, ensuring tax compliance, and supporting budgeting and cash flow management.
- The role demands a high level of precision and the use of modern accounting tools to deliver actionable insights that inform business strategy.
Key Responsibilities
- Update and reconcile general ledgers, journals, and sub-ledgers on a regular basis.
- Implement systematic checks to ensure all financial entries are accurate and complete.
- Maintain robust documentation for all financial transactions, making it easy to audit or reference as needed.
- Develop monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements that comply with statutory and internal standards.
- Compare actual figures against budgets and forecasts to identify trends, anomalies, or opportunities for cost optimization.
- Create custom reports tailored for different managerial levels, highlighting key performance indicators (KPIs).
- Ensure timely and accurate filing of taxes (VAT, PAYE, etc.) in accordance with Nigerian laws.
- Serve as the point of contact for tax audits, clarifications, and updates from tax authorities.
- Stay current on tax law changes and adjust procedures to maintain compliance.
- Manage employee payroll cycles, ensuring accuracy in wages, deductions, and benefits.
- Regularly reconcile bank statements with internal records to pinpoint and resolve discrepancies.
- Track daily cash inflows and outflows, ensuring optimal liquidity.
- Prepare for and support both internal and external audits through comprehensive record-keeping and clear process documentation.
- Identify potential financial risks and recommend control improvements.
- Continuously evaluate and refine internal controls to safeguard company assets.
- Collaborate in the development of annual budgets and periodic forecasts, incorporating business trends and market conditions.
- Provide insightful analyses that support strategic decision-making and operational improvements.
- Work closely with other departments to align financial data with overall business objectives.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- ACCA certification is a plus.
- Minimum 3 years of experience in accounting, financial reporting, and compliance.
- Strong knowledge of GAAP, IFRS, and tax regulations.
- Proficiency in accounting software.
- Experience with general ledger accounting, financial statement preparation, and account reconciliation.
- Ability to manage accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll processing.
- Strong background in budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis.
- Knowledge of tax laws, financial regulations, and audit procedures.
- Experience in filing tax returns, preparing audit reports, and ensuring statutory compliance.
- Strong attention to detail with high accuracy in financial data management.
- Ability to analyze financial data and provide insights for business decisions.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with internal and external stakeholders.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- High level of integrity, confidentiality, and professionalism.
Salary
N200,000 - N350,000 per month.
