Job Title: Head - Audit

Location: Lagos

Job Summary

  • Our client is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Head of Audit to lead their internal audit function. 
  • The ideal candidate must have a minimum of atleast 10 years of audit experience and possess a deep understanding of the insurance industry. 
  • This role is responsible for ensuring compliance with regulatory standards, assessing internal controls, and providing strategic insights to enhance operational efficiency.

Key Responsibilities
Audit Strategy & Leadership:

  • Develop and implement a risk-based audit plan aligned with organizational goals.
  • Provide independent assurance on the effectiveness of governance, risk management, and internal control processes.
  • Lead and mentor the internal audit team to ensure high-performance standards.

Internal Controls & Compliance:

  • Assess and improve internal controls, ensuring compliance with insurance regulations and ICAN standards.
  • Monitor adherence to financial reporting standards, regulatory guidelines, and corporate policies.
  • Identify potential risks and recommend mitigation strategies to senior management.

Operational & Financial Audits:

  • Conduct detailed audits of financial statements, operational processes, and IT systems.
  • Analyze audit findings and provide actionable recommendations to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Evaluate underwriting, claims processing, and investment portfolios for compliance and risk exposure.

Stakeholder Engagement & Reporting:

  • Present audit reports to the Board of Directors, Audit Committee, and Senior Management.
  • Provide insights and recommendations for improving financial and operational performance.
  • Stay updated on emerging trends, IFRS, and regulatory changes impacting the insurance industry.

Key Requirements

  • Minimum of 10 years of internal/external audit experience, with at least 5 years in a leadership role.
  • ICAN certification is mandatory.
  • Strong background in the insurance industry, with expertise in underwriting, claims management, and financial reporting.
  • In-depth knowledge of risk assessment methodologies, IFRS, and regulatory frameworks (NAICOM, FRC, CBN, SEC, etc.).
  • Proven ability to lead audit teams and drive process improvements.
  • Excellent analytical, communication, and presentation skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Additional certifications will be an added advantage
  • Experience working with ERP systems and audit tools.
