African Foundries Limited (AFL) was established to support the accelerating growth in Nigeria by making the country self-reliant for steel rebars and eliminating its dependence on imported rebars. AFL is set up to reach a 0.5 million-ton per year capacity for high strength rebars and allied products.

Job Title: Diesel Mechanic - HEMM (Heavy Earth Moving Machinery)

Job Summary

  • We are Looking a skilled and experienced Diesel Mechanic with expertise in Heavy Earth Moving Machinery (HEMM).
  • The ideal candidate will be responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining diesel-powered vehicles and equipment such as excavators, Forklifts, Sino dumpers, JCB loaders, Mobile cranes and other mining or construction machinery.
  • You will ensure maximum equipment uptime and efficiency with a strong focus on safety and preventive maintenance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform regular servicing, inspection, and preventive maintenance of HEMM vehicles.
  • Diagnose mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues in diesel engines and related systems.
  • Conduct repairs and overhauls on engines, transmissions, brakes, and hydraulic components.
  • Maintain accurate records of repairs, maintenance, and inspections.
  • Ensure all maintenance activities are conducted in accordance with safety and environmental regulations.
  • Assist in the procurement of spare parts and ensure proper inventory management.
  • Respond to on-site breakdowns and provide quick resolutions to reduce downtime.
  • Calibrate and test machinery to ensure optimal performance post-repair.
  • Collaborate with operators and other technicians for troubleshooting and maintenance planning.

Qualifications & Experience

  • ITI/Diploma in Diesel Mechanics or Mechanical Engineering or Relevant.
  • Minimum 05 years of experience in HEMM maintenance .
  • Strong knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulics, electrical systems, and diagnostics tools.
  • Ability to read technical manuals, diagrams, and schematics.
  • Good communication skills and a team-oriented mindset.

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience with computerized maintenance systems (CMMS).
  • Valid driving license and certification in HEMM operation (preferred).
  • Familiarity with safety practices and risk assessments in HEMM sites.
