National Youth Service Corp - Seven graduates who forged the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) exemption certificate have been discovered.

The NYSC discovered the fraud during the verification of its certificates on behalf of the Guaranty Trust Bank (GTB) on the graduates they were recruiting.

The NYSC had invited the concerned persons to come with the original of their certificates where it was discovered to have come from questionable sources.

NYSC - Speaking with newsmen in Abuja, the Director of Certification, NYSC, Alhaji Hudu Taura, said the seven persons were discovered though the cooperation of GTB, who alerted the scheme on the need to verify the certificates of recruits.

He said: “Some employers came to very their certificates. Specifically, GTB sent certificates to be verified by us and in the course of that, we found seven out of what they sent to be fake. So, we invited them to come with the original of that certificate.

“Only seven came and we took their statements. We verified the certificates to be fake. They are not issued by the NYSC. They confessed to have gotten them from other sources and they have stated the amount they paid to get that certificate.

“So, with their written statements, we will hand them over to the security agency for further necessary action.”

He added that four of the suspects were handed over to the police by the scheme for onward prosecution while others were to be arrested for prosecution.

Taura further said that it had become necessary for employers of labour to cross check with the NYSC to ascertain the genuineness of certificate submitted to them by applicants.
