Supervisor: Principal Program Officer Social Affairs

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Assist the Principal Programme Officer – Social Affairs in the implementation of the ECOWAS Labour and Employment Policy
  • Assist in the implementation of new Social Policies
  • Assist the Principal Programme Officer – Social Affairs in the implementation of the General Convention on Social Security;
  • Assist the Principal Programme Officer in the implementation of the regional Action Plan against Child Labour and its Worst Forms;
  • Analyse social and related events in order to advise the Principal Programme Officer – Social Affairs on same;
  • Prepare reports and analytical documents on sensitive and crucial issues which are of concern to the Principal Programme Officer – Social Affairs; Participates in the preparation of annual reports
  • Write letters, basic documents, speeches and correspondences for the supervisor;
  • Give updated information on social issues at the national or regional level to the supervisor and make recommendations on measures to be taken;
  • Provide information and make appropriate suggestions and recommendations;
  • Develop plans and take part in their implementation;
  • Perform any other related duties as instructed by the Principal Programme Officer – Social Affairs.

Qualifications/Experience/Skills

  • Bachelors Degree in Social Sciences (Sociology, History, Law), Political Science, International Relations, Public Administration or in a related field
  • At least 7 years sustained professional experience in Social Affairs
  • A Masters in the field or another related field will reduce the professional experience to 5 years.
  • Sound analytical skills with good sense of judgment
  • Good communication skills
  • Excellent report writing skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work in a multicultural environment
  • Computer literacy
  • Candidate should not be 50 years old or over at the point of recruitment and must be a citizen of one of the ECOWAS member states.
  • Must be fluent in one of the official languages of the Commission; English, French and Portuguese. A working knowledge of another would be an advantage.
