Nigeria Air Force (NAF) - The Chief of Air Staff, Air Marsha Sadique Abubakar has said that the Nigerian Air force (NAF) will recruit 1,500 Nigerians in 2016 in addition to the 600 that are to commence training in January.

Speaking as the reviewing officer at the Passing out Parade of 477 recruits of Basic Military Training Course 34/2015 at the NAF base over the weekend, the Air Chief said 506 candidates were selected for the training but only 497 reported for the exercise.

Abubakar who said the success rate of over 96 per cent was commendable, asked the Ground Training

Center in Kaduna to be prepared to train more recruits next year as the NAF would make the 1,500 recruits in addition to the 600 that were commencing training in January.

He said, ‘The training tasks will be, enormous but I am confident that you have what it takes to achieve the goals set by the Service. The NAF leadership and the chain of command will continue to rely on your allegiance, commitment and support as you serve with loyalty. To succeed in the military career that you have chosen, you must be loyal, hardworking, disciplined and dedicated to duty.

"The present administration is committed to the enthronement of professionalism, thus, the rigorous military training you received was designed to prepare you for further specialist training and the challenging career in the NAF. This is because the NAF is a highly technical and sophisticated force that requires very skilled and mentally alert manpower to operate and maintain the equipment because no right thinking government will entrust its multi-million naira equipment in the hands of an incompetent force in the face of scarce resources.

"As you are aware; the NAF is a noble profession and it is for those that have the will and courage to face challenges and make sacrifices, you must do your utmost to ensure that the Service always stays at the very top and no sacrifice can be too big to uphold its honour and good name. You are aware of the internal security challenges facing our country.

"As part of efforts to prepare you for the task ahead, the curricular of your course was reviewed with the introduction of the internal security module. If you happen to be involved in internal security operations as you leave here, you should take advantage of the knowledge and skills that you have acquired to safeguard lives and property of our citizens anywhere in the country. You must submit to civil authority and protect our democracy."
