Position: LE II Digital Communications Manager fixed term contract (renewable)

General Responsibilities
The British High Commission is looking for a dynamic, self-starting individual to manage, maintain and improve the High Commission’s digital platform, as part of our overall communications strategy.

The successful candidate will be responsible for:
  • Developing a Post digital communication strategy, which helps deliver the UK’s objectives in Nigeria. This will involve working on a mid-term and long-term digital communications plan for the High Commissioner encompassing blogs, twitter and facebook interactions.
  • Pro-actively managing the Post web presence in Nigeria, creating a high-quality product that compares favourably and ultimately surpasses the best in the industry across Africa. This includes maintenance of a professional website and innovative use of social media tools by ensuring the Post website is regularly updated with local and central content without prompts. To make use of Post social media platforms and other digital communication channels to promote UK priorities and objectives through creative messaging techniques.
  • To liaise with other UK presence (DFID, British Council) in Nigeria and across the region to ensure a more consistent intra-Africa digital communications approach. To develop an excellent understanding of the Nigeria digital landscape and create close and sustainable relationships with key individuals in this area in order to support a sophisticated BHC digital presence in Nigeria.
  • To continually use training opportunities and tools to help improve performance of self and inform colleagues of how best to use digital communications as part of their policy and programme agendas.
Qualities needed
  • The High Commission is looking for someone with good oral and written communication skills. The successful candidate will be able to work quickly and accurately, often under pressure, have a positive approach to tackling problems and a willingness to take on new tasks.
  • Previous experience of managing a digital platform is essential.
Other Information
This is a part time position of 16 hours per week. BHC opening hours are from 8.00am – 4.00pm, Monday to Thursday and 8.00am – 1.00pm on Friday, but this job will offer the flexibility of working at different timeframes within these hours and the opportunity for remote working. The job will be graded LEII with a starting monthly gross salary of N142, 553.95 including allowances. Successful candidates who are not liable to pay Nigerian tax will be subject to a 10 % notional tax deduction on the basic salary. The salary will be paid Naira.
