The United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) is the agency for human settlements. It is mandated by the UN General Assembly to promote socially and environmentally sustainable towns and cities with the goal of providing adequate shelter for all. UN-Habitat helps the urban poor by transforming cities into safer, healthier, greener places with better opportunities where everyone can live in with dignity. It works with organizations at every level, including all spheres of government, civil society and the private sector to help build, manage, plan and finance sustainable urban development.

The Federal Government of Nigeria, in collaboration with the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) has established a Country Office in Abuja, Nigeria (UN-Habitat Programme Support Office, UN HAPSO) to promote cooperation between the Government of Nigeria and UN-Habitat towards achieving the goals of the Habitat Agenda of “Adequate Shelter for All” and towards “Sustainable Human Settlements Development in an Urbanizing World.” It also assists the Federal Government of Nigeria to work towards achieving the Millennium Declaration Goals on Slums.

We are currently recruiting for the position of:

Job Title: Driver/Clerk

The post is located in HAPSO and the Driver/Clerk will report to the Administrative Assistant under the general supervision of the Habitat Programme Manager for Nigeria (HPM) and the Programme Officer. The Driver/Clerk is expected to assist the HPM in discharging responsibilities related to a wide range of functions in areas of activities relating to the mandate of the Office.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Drives a motor vehicle as directed, with due regard to time schedules; applies knowledge of driving regulations, the safety requirements and traffic rules.
  • Meets with officials at the boarding location; handles baggage, parcels, documents, goods or supplies.
  • Makes regular deliveries and collection of parcels, documents, etc. between the organization and other locations and destinations.
  • Undertakes the day-to-day maintenance and cleaning of the assigned vehicle.
  • Logs trips, mileage, gasoline, consumption, oil changes, greasing and other servicing; delivers the vehicle to the designated garage or servicing location, monitors the work to ensure it is accomplished as requested.
  • Makes minor purchases and collects required goods from local suppliers on demand; collects goods from customs with due regard to customs regulations and formalities.
  • Meets official personnel and visitors at the airport and facilitates immigration and customs fomalties as required; provides necessary information upon arrival of officials; and follows up visa requests and travel documents.
  • Carries out clerical duties upon request including photocopying, logistical support to the office and to UN-HABITAT supported meetings
  • Performs any other duties as required.

Qualifications
  • Must complete at least secondary school, have driver's license, knowledge of driving rules and regulations, and must possess certificate of trade as a driver mechanic Grad 1, must be conversant with chauffeur courtesies. Four years of progressively driving and clerical work experience
  • Fluency in the UN and national language of the duty station.
