Stanbic IBTC's Group Finance is a corporate function that serves the overall Standard Bank group across a variety of accounting disciplines – internal and external reporting, budgeting and planning, tax, technical accounting and investor relations. It also runs the bank’s capital management and regulatory reporting teams and the financial shared services processing centre. Group Finance has its own, dedicated SAP technical support and development team and a new financial systems and process improvement programme team known as Refine.

Position Description
- Managing the planning and the performance management process in Corporate and investment banking (CIB)
- Facilitating strategic planning through preparation of financial forecasts based on CIB’s business strategy
- Overall management, co-ordination and preparation of the annual budget and periodic revised estimates.
- Performance management through analysis, review and preparation of periodic financial reports
- Providing CIB leadership management information to support decision making.
- The role will include the establishment and reporting of Key Performance Indicators (KPI’s) for the Corporate and Investment
- Banking business unit and the monitoring of product, customer and BU profitability
- The prime customer of the incumbent is the CIB EXCO
Key Results Area
1.) Financial Planning
- To participate in setting the CIB’s finance strategy and objectives.
- Preparation of 3 year rolling forecast by taking the ideas and strategy and translating them into meaningful financial information such as profitability, balance sheet growth, growth impacts, and capital requirements.
- Overall management, co-ordination and preparation of the CIB annual business plan, capital expenditure, operating budget and periodic revised estimates
- Challenge the plans of CIB business units and integrate those plans into the SIBTC plan
2.) Performance Management
- Develop and implement reporting of key CIB management information (MI) ensuring data integrity and timely communication to relevant managers.
- Provide MI, reporting and query resolution support to CIB, including monthly product, customer and BU performance analysis..
- Identify areas of performance shortfall and propose corrective interventions to CIB management team.
- Investigate variances to budget, provide explanations and recommend corrective action.
- Drive the required business analysis and related process for making recommendations for new performance opportunities.
- Develop and track KPIs trends and develop benchmarking processes for CIB.
- Prepare detailed MI schedules against forecasts and KPI’s on revex and balance sheet targets for the Relationship managers and divisional heads
- Analyse deviations from KPIs and targets with explanatory notes.
- Prepare monthly analysis and commentary on portfolio performance, identifying areas for improvement and corrective action.
- Prepare and present the annual budget and revised estimates for CIB BU.
- Prepare monthly summary CIB performance reports and analysis for submission to head office
3.) Staff Management
Playing a leading role in coaching and developing his/her team
Required Skills and Qualifications
- An appreciation and a good understanding of macro economics and external factors affecting the business strategies adopted, and market serviced by SIBP.
- Deep understanding of key drivers and measures for corporate and investment banking.
- Understanding of the importance of planning and budgeting in the bank’s overall business strategy
- Ability to analyse and evaluate data for acceptability and correctness.
- Analytical mind with strong orientation to financial analysis.
- Ability and experience in communicating with all levels of management regarding management information needs.
- Good interpersonal skills required in liaising with people at different levels within the bank.
- Willingness to get involved in detail
- Good planning and organisation skills.
- Strong report writing skills.

- Excellent computer skills particularly in MS Word, MS Excel and MS Access, Power Point
Required Competencies
- Minimum of 6 years banking experience
- In depth understanding of banking and the underlying key performance drivers
- Previous financial Modelling and data mining experience
- Experience in balancing financial and business performance and coaching non-financial managers will be an advantage
- Advanced computer skills (Excel, Access and PowerPoint).
- Understanding of Nigerian GAAP and IFRS
- Previous experience with Cognos an advantage
- Working knowledge of accounting software. (Knowledge of SAP or Equinox will be an advantage.)
- Experience in change management and has the ability to positively lead change
