Sightsavers Nigeria - COUNTDOWN is a research study funded by DFID led by Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine (LSTM) and is aimed at illustrating the importance of multidisciplinary approaches in addressing the complexity and challenges of implementing Neglected Tropical.

We are recruiting to fill the position below:

Job Title: COUNTDOWN Research Manager

Job Description

The COUNTDOWN Research Manager will be responsible for the technical oversight, management and implementation of the COUNTDOWN research project in Nigeria for the period 2016- 2020. Other responsibilities include leading and working in close collaboration with partners, on the design, quality assurance of the research conducted, analysis, dissemination and uptake of research findings.

Description of Post/Responsibilities
  • Responsible for quality assurance of research conducted in Nigeria under the COUNTDOWN research project.
  • Lead on the design of research studies (in collaboration LSTM) to ensure they are conducted with methodological rigors and are relevant for the context and need
  • Lead on the implementation of research activities in Kaduna state and work with the research officer for Ogun state activities.
  • Establish and maintain effective relationships with the Ministries of Health and other partners towards attaining the objectives of the COUNTDOWN project in Nigeria
  • Lead on supporting the development of systems/framework for monitoring and evaluating the performance of the COUNTDOWN project
  • Ensure that partners manage and utilize project assets in line with guidelines for the COUNTDOWN project.
Qualifications and Experience
  • Post graduate Degree in Public Health, Epidemiology, Biological Sciences, Social Sciences or related disciplines. Significant experience implementing research studies, ideally using both quantitative and qualitative methodologies
  • Minimum of five years of programme/ project management, ideally in a research setting/environment
  • Technical knowledge of one or more of the five PCT NTDs.
  • A demonstrated record of accomplishment in research in public health programmes, including the
  • Publication of papers in peer-review
  • Knowledge of ethical standards and procedures for conducting research
  • Excellent analytical skills, including experience using appropriate analytical software e.g NVivo, STATA, SPSS
