Job Title: Primary School Teacher

Employment Type: Contract (1-year renewable contract)
Duties
Teaching and Learning:
- Plan, deliver, and assess high-quality, inquiry-based lessons aligned with the PYP framework and school’s curriculum.
- Utilize various teaching strategies to engage students and promote academic excellence.
- Prepare class for Celebrations of Learning as specified in school policy documents.
- Prepare unit planners, lesson plans, and student portfolios.
- Monitor and track student progress, providing timely feedback to support learning and development.
- Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse learning needs and abilities of students.
- Collaborate with colleagues and specialist teachers to ensure coherence across the curriculum.
- Integrate technology and other resources to enhance teaching and learning experiences.
- Promote the development of the Learner Profile attributes and ATL skills in all students.
- Reflect on teaching practices and participate in professional development to continually improve instructional effectiveness.
Classroom Management Responsibilities:
- Ensure a physically and emotionally safe environment for students through positive framing, kind communication with students and adults, and predictable, consistent routines.
- Use classroom and behavioural management strategies that are positive, structured, consistent, respectful, and responsive to student needs, to build a safe, orderly inclusive, and positive classroom community.
- Use a wide array of data to make instructional choices and create specific action plans to increase student achievement, including dynamic student grouping for small group instruction.
- Utilize an effective approach to behaviour management, time management, classroom organization and appearance, planning, teaching, and monitoring learning.
- Demonstrate an understanding of inquiry and give students choices to show their understanding.
- Encourage students to interact and work cooperatively with others and engage all students in activities.
- Promote independence and employ strategies to recognize and reward achievement of self-reliance.
- Respect all deadlines set out by the PYP Coordinator and the Head teacher and keep proper documentation.
Assessment and Feedback:
- Develop and implement effective assessment strategies to monitor student progress.
- Provide constructive feedback that guides student learning and promotes growth.
- Analyze assessment data to identify learning gaps and inform instructional planning.
- Use a variety of assessment tools, including formative, summative, and peer/self-assessments.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of student performance and progress.
- Communicate assessment outcomes effectively to students, parents, and relevant stakeholders.
- Encourage students to reflect on their own learning and set personal learning goals.
- Collaborate with colleagues to ensure consistent and fair assessment practices across the school.
- Adapt assessments to meet the diverse needs of learners and provide opportunities for all students to demonstrate understanding.
Collaboration and Communication:
- Collaborate with colleagues to plan and deliver units of inquiry.
- Communicate effectively with parents and guardians through regular updates and conferences.
- Participate in team meetings and professional learning communities to share best practices.
- Work closely with specialist teachers, support staff, and leadership to ensure a coherent learning experience for students.
- Foster positive relationships with students, parents, and colleagues to support a respectful and inclusive school environment.
- Share student progress, achievements, and concerns promptly with relevant stakeholders.
- Contribute to school-wide initiatives, events and celebrations to strengthen community engagement.
- Use ClassDojo and other communication channels to maintain consistent and transparent communication.
Professional Development:
- Engage in ongoing professional development to stay current with best practices and PYP requirements.
- Reflect on teaching practices and student learning outcomes to inform future planning.
- Participate in workshops, conferences, and collaborative learning opportunities to enhance instructional skills.
- Share newly acquired knowledge and strategies with colleagues to support school-wide improvement
- Set personal professional goals and monitor progress toward achieving them.
- Contribute to the development and implementation of school initiatives and curriculum enhancements.
- Stay informed about educational research, trends, and innovations relevant to the PYP and global education standards.
- Perform any other job-related tasks as may be assigned by the Head of School.
Requirements
Qualification:
- Bachelor’s degree in Education or related field with a minimum of five (5) years’ experience in an International teaching school approved by an international schools association or body (e.g IBO, CIA, AISAN, COBIS, CIS, AISA)..
- Certification in PYP is an added advantage.
