We are recruiting to fill the position below:

Job Title: Heavy Duty Equipment Officer

Location: Lagos

Reports To:Logistics Officer / Plant Manager

Job Summary

  • The Heavy Duty Equipment Officer is responsible for the effective management, operation, maintenance coordination, and utilization of heavy-duty machinery and plant equipment to ensure safe, efficient, and cost-effective operations.
  • The role focuses on equipment availability, performance monitoring, compliance, and asset protection.

Key Responsibilities
Plant & Equipment Management:

  • Oversee the deployment, operation, and return of heavy-duty equipment (e.g. excavators, bulldozers, cranes, loaders, graders)
  • Ensure optimal utilization of plant equipment in line with project schedules.
  • Maintain accurate records of equipment usage, location, and status
  • Coordinate equipment mobilization and demobilization to and from sites.

Maintenance & Asset Control:

  • Monitor equipment condition and promptly report faults, breakdowns, or abnormal performance.
  • Coordinate preventive and corrective maintenance with the maintenance team or external vendors.
  • Ensure equipment servicing is carried out according to manufacturer recommendations.
  • Track maintenance history and downtime to minimize operational disruptions.

Operator Supervision:

  • Assign qualified and certified operators to specific equipment.
  • Ensure operators conduct daily pre-start and post-operation checks.
  • Enforce proper handling and operation of equipment to prevent abuse and damage.
  • Monitor operator compliance with safety, operational, and company procedures.

Health, Safety & Compliance:

  • Ensure strict compliance with HSE standards, statutory regulations, and site safety rules.
  • Enforce the use of PPE and safe work practices at all times.
  • Conduct toolbox talks related to equipment operation and safety.
  • Report and investigate equipment-related incidents, accidents, and near misses.

Documentation & Reporting:

  • Maintain up-to-date records, including equipment logbooks, inspection checklists, and service reports.
  • Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly equipment utilization and condition reports.
  • Provide verified equipment usage data to support billing and cost control.
  • Maintain records of equipment certifications, inspections, and permits.

Cost Control & Efficiency:

  • Monitor fuel, oil, and consumables usage for assigned equipment.
  • Identify opportunities to reduce downtime, misuse, and operating costs.
  • Support budgeting and planning for equipment repairs, replacement, or acquisition.

Stakeholder Coordination:

  • Liaise with site supervisors, logistics teams, and clients on equipment requirements and availability.
  • Coordinate with vendors and service providers for equipment repairs and parts procurement.
  • Support operational planning and execution across multiple sites.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • OND/HND/BSc in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Heavy Equipment Technology, or related field.
  • Minimum of 3–5 years’ experiencemanaging heavy-duty equipment in construction, haulage, or oil & gas.
  • Strong knowledge of heavy equipment operation, maintenance, and safety standards.
  • Ability to interpret basic mechanical and technical reports.
  • Proficiency in MS Excel and maintenance tracking systems.

  • 150,000 monthly +  Commissions
