Job Title: Purchaser

Job Summary

  • We are seeking a detail-oriented and motivated Purchaser to join our supermarket team.
  • The Purchaser will be responsible for sourcing and purchasing products to ensure optimal inventory levels, manage supplier relationships, and contribute to the overall efficiency of the supply chain.

Key Responsibilities

  • Sourcing and Procurement: Identify and evaluate potential suppliers for various categories of products. Negotiate contracts, pricing, and terms to benefit the supermarket.
  • Inventory Management: Monitor inventory levels and place purchase orders based on demand forecasts, sales trends, and stock levels to avoid stockouts or overstock situations.
  • Supplier Relationship Management: Build and maintain strong relationships with suppliers, addressing any issues related to product quality, delivery times, and pricing.
  • Market Research: Stay informed about market trends, competitor pricing, and new product offerings to make informed purchasing decisions.
  • Budget Management: Work within the allocated budget to optimize purchasing decisions, aiming to achieve cost savings while maintaining product quality.
  • Collaboration: Collaborate with department heads, including sales and marketing, to anticipate product demands and special promotions.
  • Reporting: Maintain accurate records of purchases, pricing, and supplier contracts. Generate reports on purchasing activities and inventory status for management review.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Supply Chain Management, or a related field is preferred.
  • Proven experience in purchasing or procurement roles, preferably in a retail or supermarket environment.
  • Strong negotiation skills with a track record of achieving favorable contract terms.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Technical Proficiency and sufficient knowledge with Microsoft Office Suite.

Working Conditions:

  • Work is typically performed in the supermarket, with regular visits to suppliers and warehouses.
  • May require occasional evening or weekend work to meet deadlines or attend supplier meetings.
