Job Title: General Counsel

Location: Lagos

Role Overview

  • As General Counsel, you willown all legal matters across the holding company and its portfolio, providing strategic and operational legal guidance.
  • You will work closely with founders, executives, and management teams toprotect the company while enabling growth, particularly intech, fintech, and startup ventures.
  • This is a high-impact role with opportunities forequity participation in one or more of our client'sportfolio companies.You are astrategic thinker, entrepreneurial, and comfortableadvising at the intersection of law, tech, and business.
  • You enjoy working across multiple ventures and are eager togrow with a company that is building Africa’s next-generation innovation ecosystem. You get to hire atleast 3 lawyers to support the legal team and to report to you.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provideend-to-end legal advisoryacross the holding company and subsidiaries, including contracts, corporate governance, intellectual property, and regulatory compliance.
  • Draft, review, and negotiatecommercial agreements, investment agreements, partnership agreements, SaaS agreements, NDAs, and IP assignments.
  • Serve as theprimary legal advisoron corporate matters, includingCAC registrations, share issuances, corporate structure, and compliance.
  • Supportfundraising, investments, joint ventures, and acquisitionswithin the portfolio.
  • Advisefounders and managementon startup legal risks, employment contracts, equity structures, and regulatory requirements.
  • Collaborate with business teams to ensure legal frameworksalign with company strategy and commercial objectives.
  • Monitorregulatory and industry trends, ensuring the company and portfolio remain compliant while minimizing risk.
  • Build and maintain atrusted relationship with internal and external stakeholders, including lawyers, regulators, and investors.
  • Mentor and guidejunior legal staff or outsourced counselas the team grows.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Law degree from a recognized university; admission to practice in Nigeria required. A Masters Degree is an added advantage.
  • 4+ years of post-call experience, ideally with a mix ofcorporate law, commercial contracts, startups, and tech practice.
  • Experience instartups, fintech, or technology-focused ventureshighly desirable.
  • Proven experience withcontract drafting and negotiation, corporate governance, and CAC compliance.
  • Strong understanding ofintellectual property, licensing, and equity arrangements.
  • Business-minded, able toalign legal advice with commercial goals.
  • Excellent communication andstakeholder management skills.
  • Ability towork in a fast-paced, multi-venture environment, managing competing priorities.
  • Excellent writing, listening, wrting, presentation and organisational skills.
