Job Title: Medical Librarian
Location: Abuja
Job Purpose
- The Medical Librarian will be responsible for leading the development, management, and accessibility of the Centre’s health sciences library resources. He/ She will maintain up-to-date medical collections, provide research and reference support to clinicians and researchers, and support education through user training and instructional material development.
- The role demands a strong understanding of library science, digital information systems, and healthcare terminology, as well as a commitment to excellence in service delivery and continuous learning in an academic medical environment.
Key Accountabilities/Responsibilities
Library Operations and Information Management:
- Manage and maintain a comprehensive collection of medical books, journals, audio-visual materials, and digital resources.
- Catalog, organize, and store physical and electronic resources using modern library systems and standards.
- Ensure regular updates to databases and institutional repositories for accuracy and accessibility.
Research and Academic Support:
- Assist healthcare professionals, researchers, and students with literature searches and reference services.
- Provide instruction and support for evidence-based practice and academic writing.
- Register AMCE as an institution with research and academic repositories to expand access.
Training and User Engagement:
- Conduct training sessions and workshops to educate users on accessing and utilizing library tools and databases.
- Develop instructional materials to support research, teaching, and learning across departments.
- Collaborate with faculty, students, and external library partners to foster resource sharing and knowledge dissemination.
Policy and Development:
- Develop and implement library policies, usage guidelines, and strategic plans.
- Monitor trends in medical information services and adopt new technologies to enhance access.
- Participate in the development of educational content and support interdepartmental learning initiatives.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Library Science or a related field.
- Master’s degree in Library Science, Information Management, or related field (preferred).
- Certification as a hospital or university librarian is an added advantage.
- Strong familiarity with digital library systems and cataloging standards.
- Knowledge of medical terminology, health databases, and evidence-based research tools.
- Awareness of academic publishing and open-access repositories.
Experience:
- 6–8 years of progressive experience in a hospital or university medical library.
- Proven experience providing customer service in academic or clinical environments.
- Experience in supporting clinical and academic research through information services.
- Proficiency with CRM systems, learning management platforms, and other educational technologies.
