The African Medical Centre of Excellence (AMCE) Abuja is a 500-bed specialty hospital offering world-class comprehensive diagnostics and treatment in oncology, cardiovascular, and haematological care, and general medical and surgical services, along with top notch research and education. Developed by the African Export-Import Bank (Afreximbank) in clinical partnership with King’s College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust., AMCE Abuja is the first of five centres planned for development in Africa.

We are recruiting to fill the position below:

Job Title: SPECT Radiographer

Location: Abuja

Job Purpose

  • The SPECT Radiographer will be responsible for delivering high-quality Single Photon Emission Computed Tomography (SPECT) imaging services for accurate diagnosis and treatment planning.
  • This role involves patient preparation, image acquisition, equipment operation, and adherence to strict radiation safety protocols.
  • The role holder will work closely with nuclear medicine specialists, radiologists, and multidisciplinary teams to provide safe, effective, and compassionate patient care, while contributing to quality improvement, training, and professional development.

Key Accountabilities/Responsibilities
SPECT Imaging and Patient Care:

  • Perform high-quality SPECT scans in line with established protocols.
  • Prepare patients, explain procedures, and provide reassurance throughout the imaging process.
  • Review image quality before submission for interpretation.
  • Radiation Safety and Equipment Management
  • Adhere to radiation safety protocols to protect patients, staff, and self.
  • Operate, maintain, and perform quality checks on SPECT equipment.

Collaboration and Teamwork:

  • Work with physicians, radiologists, and nuclear medicine specialists to support diagnosis and treatment planning.
  • Provide post-procedure instructions and aftercare guidance.
  • Quality Assurance and Continuous Improvement
  • Participate in departmental quality control and audit programs.
  • Contribute to research projects aimed at improving diagnostic imaging.
  • Stay updated with emerging imaging technologies and techniques.

Mentorship and Training:

  • Supervise and mentor junior radiographers and students.
  • Support recruitment, retention, and development of team members.
  • Organisational and Governance Responsibilities
  • Comply with infection control policies and AMCE’s clinical governance standards.
  • Contribute to departmental goals, operational efficiency, and patient care improvement initiatives.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Radiography or a related field.
  • Master’s degree or advanced imaging certifications (CT, MRI).
  • Certification in SPECT imaging techniques (required).

Experience:

  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience as a radiographer in a clinical setting.
  • Experience with PACS/ RIS systems.
  • Familiarity with quality assurance processes in diagnostic imaging.
  • Knowledge of radiation protection principles and healthcare regulations.
  • Proficiency in diagnostic imaging equipment operation.
