Job Title: Quality Engineer

Location: Ikeja, Lagos
Employment Type: Full-time

Role Summary

  • The Quality Engineer is responsible for ensuring that manufactured products consistently meet defined quality standards, regulatory requirements, and customer expectations.
  • The role focuses on production quality assurance, process optimization, defect prevention, and compliance with industry standards, particularly within the automotive or auto-component manufacturing sector.
  • The Quality Engineer plays a critical role in driving continuous improvement initiatives, reducing defects, and enhancing overall production performance.

Key Responsibilities
Production Quality Assurance:

  • Monitor and control product quality across all stages of manufacturing
  • Conduct in-process inspections and final product verification
  • Ensure compliance with specifications, quality standards, and work instructions
  • Investigate production defects and implement corrective actions
  • Support pilot runs, line trials, and new product introductions

Process Control & Continuous Improvement:

  • Analyze production processes to identify quality risks and improvement opportunities
  • Implement Statistical Process Control (SPC) techniques
  • Lead root cause analysis using tools such as 5 Why, Fishbone Diagram, and Pareto Analysis
  • Develop preventive measures to minimize defects and rework
  • Drive Lean, Six Sigma, and Kaizen initiatives

Quality Documentation & Compliance:

  • Maintain quality records, inspection reports, and test documentation
  • Ensure compliance with ISO 9001, IATF 16949, or equivalent standards
  • Support internal and external audits
  • Prepare quality performance reports for management

Supplier Quality Management:

  • Monitor and evaluate supplier quality performance
  • Conduct supplier audits and inspections
  • Verify incoming materials meet required specifications
  • Coordinate corrective actions for supplier non-conformities

Customer Quality Support:

  • Investigate customer complaints and warranty issues
  • Implement Corrective and Preventive Actions (CAPA)
  • Prepare technical quality reports and responses
  • Support customer audits and technical reviews

Testing & Inspection:

  • Develop inspection plans, control plans, and testing procedures
  • Ensure calibration and proper maintenance of measuring instruments
  • Utilize gauges, CMM, and other inspection/testing equipment
  • Validate products against engineering drawings and specifications

Cross-Functional Collaboration:

  • Collaborate with production, engineering, maintenance, and R&D teams
  • Provide quality input during design and process development phases
  • Train operators on quality standards and procedures

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)

  • Reduction in defect and scrap rates
  • Improvement in First Pass Yield (FPY)
  • Reduction in customer complaints
  • Audit compliance performance
  • Timely closure of corrective actions
  • Supplier quality performance improvement

Required Qualifications
Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Production Engineering, or related fields.

Experience:

  • 3 - 8 years of quality engineering experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Experience in production/plant operations
  • Automotive or auto-component industry experience.

Technical Skills:

  • Knowledge of ISO 9001 and IATF 16949 standards
  • Familiarity with automotive quality tools (APQP, PPAP, FMEA, MSA, SPC)
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings and technical specifications
  • Experience with inspection and testing equipment
  • Proficiency in quality analysis and reporting tools.
