Speaking with journalists during the parade of the suspects, the state commissioner of police, Mr Sam Okaula, said operatives of the command, acting on intelligence, arrested members of the syndicate at Gaa-Saka and Oke Fomo areas of Ilorin metropolis.

It is recalled that the senior special assistant to the Kwara State governor on Media and Communication, Dr Muideen Akorede, on Tuesday had said that 10 persons were arrested during the ongoing biometric verification exercise of civil servants in the state for presenting fake educational certificates.

The police boss said the paraded suspects were in the act of forging letters of employment and posting of government agencies and parastatals like Nigeria Hajj Commission, Nigeria Ports Authority, Kwara State Teaching Service Commission, Kwara State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) etc.

He said the members of syndicate charged and collected between N40, 000 and N70, 000 from each victim for state appointments and between N200, 000 and N350, 000 each for federal appointments.

Mr Okaula, who said that fake documents of different government agencies and parastatals were recovered from the suspects, added that they had confessed to have made N4 million from the process.

"The activities of this syndicate had led to injection of fake workers into the workforce of the state which had made the current verification exercise embarked upon by the state government timely.
