Job Title: Legal Officer

Job Summary

• ​​​​We are seeking amid-level legal officer, experienced in providing legal oversight on all credit-related transactions, ensuring proper documentation, regulatory compliance, risk mitigation, legal enforcementof credit obligations, documentation reviews, collateral verification and monitoring to protect the institution’s interests.

Responsibilities

• Draft, review, and vet loan agreements and security documentation.
• Ensure all credit facilities comply with internal policies and regulatory requirements.
• Prepare deeds of assignment, guarantees, indemnities, and other legal instruments.
• Ensure proper execution and safe custody of legal documents.
• Oversee perfection of security documents (e.g., land registry, CAC filings, stamping, etc.).
• Ensure timely registration of charges and mortgages.
• Manage loan recovery cases and coordinate legal action when required.
• Liaise with external solicitors, regulators, and government agencies.
• Monitor compliance with CBN and other regulatory guidelines.
• Support remedial management and recovery processes.
• Initiate legal recovery proceedings where necessary.
• Engage external counsel and monitor cases.

Requirements

• LL.B (Bachelor of Law) degree and should have been called to Bar.
• 3–5 years’ post-call experience, preferably in banking, microfinance, or financial services.
• Strong experience in credit documentation, loan appraisal, and collateral management.
