Job Responsibilities
- Provide advisory services on issues that relate to legal and regulatory requirements and liaise with relevant regulatory bodies
- Manage relationships with external solicitors and ensure compliance with agreed service levels
- Manage all corporate affairs and communications on behalf of the organisation
- Draft, negotiate, administer, interpret and advise on agreements, letters, forms, and other legal documents related to the organisation as required
- Participate in the articulation of the organisation’s strategic goals and objectives
- Review and authorize all expenditure/transactions of the legal department in line with the approved departmental budget and the organisations manual of authority
- Provide all guidance, leadership support and strategic direction in the execution of the legal department’s functions and activities
- Keep abreast of best practices, changes in regulation, amendment of enabling laws and proactively advise the business accordingly
Qualifications and Experience
- Must have a first degree in Law(LL.B.)
- A master's degree (LL,M,) in commercial law is an added advantage
- Minimum of 8-10 years post qualification experience high includes a combination of experience in a law firm and the manufacturing /financial services sectors
- Prior experience in business investment transactions
- Membership of relevant local and international associations
- In-depth knowledge of international, local business and commercial law
- Excellent leadership /supervisory and people management skills
- Strong problem-solving and creative skills
- Ability to exercise sound judgement and make decisions based on accurate and timely analysis
- Sound business acumen
- Good negotiation and influencing skills
