We are recruiting to fill the position below:

Job Title: Cashier

Locations: Maitama and Kwali, Abuja (FCT) 
Employment Type: Full-time
Direct Report to: Store Manager
Dotted Report To: Director, Business Sustainability and Systems Development

Job Purpose

  • The Cashier is responsible for managing point-of-sale transactions accurately and efficiently while delivering excellent customer service.
  • The role ensures proper cash handling, accurate sales recording, compliance with financial controls, and contributes to a positive shopping experience for customers purchasing SCL’s fresh and dry products.

Key Responsibilities
Sales & Transaction Processing:

  • Operate the Point of Sale (POS) system for all transactions.
  • Accurately process cash, POS, bank transfers, and other approved payment methods.
  • Issue receipts and ensure all sales are properly recorded.
  • Verify product pricing and quantities before processing payments.
  • Handle returns and exchanges in line with SCL retail policy.

Cash Management & Financial Accountability:

  • Maintain accurate cash drawer balances at all times.
  • Conduct daily cash reconciliation and report discrepancies immediately.
  • Prepare end-of-day sales reports and submit to the Store Manager.
  • Ensure strict adherence to SCL’s financial control and anti-fraud policies.
  • Safeguard company funds and prevent losses or misappropriation.

Customer Service:

  • Greet customers warmly and professionally.
  • Provide basic information about SCL products when required.
  • Resolve customer complaints courteously and escalate when necessary.
  • Maintain a professional appearance and positive attitude at all times.

Store Support:

  • Assist in product arrangement and shelf organization when needed.
  • Monitor stock levels at checkout points.
  • Support inventory counts and periodic stock-taking exercises.
  • Maintain cleanliness and orderliness around the checkout area.

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)

  • 100% daily cash reconciliation accuracy.
  • Zero unresolved transaction discrepancies.
  • Timely submission of daily sales reports.
  • Customer satisfaction rating (where applicable).
  • Compliance with financial and operational policies.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Minimum of OND / Diploma in Accounting, Business Administration, or related field.
  • 1–3 years’ experience as a cashier or in retail sales.
  • Basic accounting and numerical proficiency.
  • Familiarity with POS systems and Microsoft Excel.
  • Strong integrity and accountability.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
