We are recruiting to fill the position below:

Job Title: Chef - Salad & Smoothie Bar

Locations: Maitama and Kwali, Abuja (FCT)
Employment Type: Full-time
Direct Report to: Store Manager
Dotted Reports To: Director Business, Sustainability, and Systems Development

Job Purpose

  • The Chef – Salad & Smoothie Bar is responsible for preparing high-quality, fresh salads, smoothies, and healthy beverages in line with SCL’s quality, hygiene, and food safety standards.
  • The role ensures consistent taste, presentation, portion control, and excellent customer satisfaction while maintaining strict compliance with food safety regulations.

Key Responsibilities
Food Preparation & Production:

  • Prepare fresh salads, dressings, smoothies, juices, and healthy beverages according to approved recipes and standards.
  • Ensure consistency in taste, quality, and presentation.
  • Wash, cut, portion, and properly store fruits and vegetables.
  • Monitor the freshness of ingredients and prevent spoilage.
  • Innovate and suggest new healthy menu options aligned with SCL products.

Hygiene & Food Safety Compliance:

  • Maintain strict personal hygiene and cleanliness at all times.
  • Ensure compliance with food safety and sanitation regulations.
  • Properly label, store, and rotate ingredients (FIFO method).
  • Maintain a clean and organized food preparation area.
  • Report expired or low-stock ingredients promptly.

Inventory & Cost Control:

  • Monitor daily ingredient usage and minimize wastage.
  • Support stock-taking and inventory reconciliation.
  • Ensure proper portion control to maintain profitability.
  • Notify Store Manager of supply needs in a timely manner.

Customer Service & Engagement:

  • Interact professionally with customers when required.
  • Provide information on ingredients and nutritional benefits.
  • Handle special dietary requests within operational limits.
  • Maintain a friendly and welcoming service environment.

Operational Support:

  • Assist in menu planning and product pricing discussions.
  • Support promotional campaigns for the smoothie and salad bar.
  • Ensure equipment (blenders, chillers, prep tools) are properly maintained.

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)

  • Consistent product quality and presentation standards.
  • Compliance with food hygiene and safety regulations.
  • Minimal ingredient wastage.
  • Customer satisfaction feedback.
  • Timely preparation during peak hours.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Minimum of an SSCE / OND qualification; Culinary certification is an advantage.
  • A Bachelor’s Degree or Equivalent is an Advantage
  • 2 – 4 years’ experience in food preparation, preferably in a café, smoothie bar, or health-focused restaurant.
  • Knowledge of food hygiene and safety standards.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced retail environment.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Creative mindset with attention to detail.
