The Farm, Katsina Limited is an agricultural and flour and feed mill comapny that deals in the livestock farming which includes cattle and poultry and maize flour production.

Job Title: Veterinary Doctor

Job Roles and Responsibilities

• Diagnose, treat, and manage diseases, injuries, and health conditions affecting livestock and other animals within the farm.
• Conduct routine medical examinations, vaccinations, and preventive health programs to ensure optimal animal health and productivity.
• Monitor livestock health and welfare, identifying early signs of illness, infection, or nutritional deficiencies and providing appropriate treatment.
• Perform medical procedures such as minor surgeries, wound treatment, deworming, and administration of medications and injections.
• Provide guidance on animal nutrition, breeding, housing, and general herd management to improve productivity and reduce disease risk.
• Develop and implement disease prevention and biosecurity protocols across the livestock units.
• Maintain accurate veterinary records including treatments administered, vaccinations, mortality reports, and herd health status.
• Collaborate with farm management to plan and implement herd health programs, vaccination schedules, and disease control strategies.
• Inspect and monitor animal housing, feeding systems, and sanitation conditions to ensure compliance with animal health and welfare standards.
• Advise management on procurement and proper use of veterinary drugs, vaccines, and medical supplies.
• Ensure compliance with relevant veterinary regulations, food safety standards, and government health requirements.
• Provide training and guidance to farm staff on proper animal handling, basic health monitoring, and early disease detection.
• Prepare periodic reports on livestock health status, treatment outcomes, and recommendations for improved animal management.

Qualifications & Requirements

• Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) or equivalent degree in Veterinary Medicine from a recognized institution.
• Have relevant experience in livestock or farm animal practice, particularly in cattle, poultry, or small ruminants.
• Demonstrate strong knowledge of animal health management, disease control, vaccination programs, and biosecurity practices.
• Exhibit good analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills in diagnosing and managing animal health issues.
• Possess good record-keeping, communication, and teamwork skills and the ability to train and supervise farm staff.
• Be physically fit, attentive to detail, and willing to work in a farm environment with occasional emergency response to animal health issues.
