Job Title: Accountant (Event Center)

Role Overview

  • We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Accountant to independently manage the day-to-day financial operations of the organisation.
  • The ideal candidate will take ownership of the accounting function with minimal supervision, ensuring accurate financial record-keeping, robust reporting, and full compliance with applicable accounting standards.
  • This role is critical to the financial integrity of the business and demands a professional who is not only technically sound but is also able to apply that knowledge in a fast-paced, service-driven hospitality and events environment.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain complete and accurate books of accounts using the double-entry bookkeeping system, ensuring all transactions are correctly classified, recorded, and reconciled on a timely basis.
  • Prepare monthly management accounts, including the Profit & Loss statement and Statement of Financial Position (Balance Sheet), with supporting schedules and narrative for management review.
  • Perform monthly bank reconciliation exercises to align the organisation’s cash book with bank statements, investigating and resolving all outstanding items promptly.
  • Manage payroll processing at month-end, ensuring accurate recognition of payroll costs, correct journal entries, and timely disbursement of salaries.
  • Oversee accounts payable and receivable, including vendor invoice processing, customer advance payments (deferred revenue), fixed asset schedules, petty cash, and expense reimbursements – ensuring proper documentation at all times.
  • Apply correct revenue recognition principles to advance payments received for event bookings and suite reservations, in compliance with applicable IFRS standards.
  • Ensure full compliance with statutory tax obligations (VAT, WHT, PAYE) and support audit processes by providing accurate records, schedules, and financial data as required.
  • Provide timely financial analysis and reporting to management to support budgeting, cost control, and operational decision-making.

Qualification & Experience

  • A degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline.
  • 3 – 5 years of hands-on accounting experience, preferably within the hospitality, events, or service sector.
  • A professional qualification (ICAN, ACCA, or equivalent) is required or a demonstrated progression towards completion.
  • Proven working knowledge of double-entry bookkeeping and its application in a business environment.
  • Experience in preparing management accounts (P&L and Balance Sheet) on a monthly basis.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform bank reconciliations, manage payroll, and handle deferred revenue/unearned income.
  • Familiarity with IFRS accounting standards, including IAS 1 (Presentation of Financial Statements), IAS 2 (Inventories), and relevant revenue recognition principles.
  • Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Sage, or similar) and Microsoft Excel.
