We are recruiting to fill the position below:

Job Title: Head of Credit

Location: Lekki Epe Express Road, Lagos

Job Summary

  • The Head of Credit is a senior banking executive responsible for leading the credit function across retail, corporate, and SME portfolios.
  • This role ensures sound credit risk assessment, portfolio management, and regulatory compliance with the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and other relevant authorities.
  • The Head of Credit provides strategic guidance for loan origination, approval, monitoring, and recovery while balancing growth and risk.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement credit policies, procedures, and lending guidelines compliant with CBN regulations.
  • Oversee credit approval processes for corporate, SME, and retail loans, ensuring due diligence and risk assessment.
  • Monitor the bank’s credit portfolio, identifying emerging risks and recommending mitigation strategies.
  • Lead loan structuring, covenants, collateral management, and credit risk reporting.
  • Ensure adherence to the Prudential Guidelines, CBN Circulars, and regulatory reporting requirements.
  • Collaborate with Risk Management, Internal Audit, and Compliance on portfolio stress testing, NPL management, and recovery strategies.
  • Mentor and develop credit officers, analysts, and relationship managers to strengthen the credit function.
  • Prepare periodic credit risk reports, early warning indicators, and management dashboards for the board.

KPIs

  • Non-performing loan (NPL) ratio
  • Loan growth vs. credit risk appetite
  • Timeliness and accuracy of credit approvals
  • Compliance with CBN Prudential Guidelines.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Banking, Accounting, Economics, or related field; MBA preferred.
  • Professional banking certifications such as ACA, ACCA, CFA, or ICAN advantageous.
  • 8+ years in credit management within a bank, with 5 years in a senior leadership role.

Required Skills & Competencies:

  • Strong knowledge of banking regulations and credit risk frameworks.
  • Advanced analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Leadership and mentoring capabilities.
  • Excellent communication for board-level reporting and interdepartmental collaboration.
